just in case anybody is interested i came across this map on my search for bfv maps. http://www.fileshack.com/file.x?fid=4860 you have to register but its worth it c u there. :smokin: soldier805
It does look like a cool map. And I will definatly get it and i hope that some servers run it alot.
isnt it using the old AI paths ?
here's another link 2 a different version of el al and its got an ip of server that is running it http://www.nuernbergwehrmacht.de/index.php :smokin: soldier805
From the screens I saw, it looks like a little too much Open Terrain. Yeah, I know that's how the original El Alamein map was, but I figure if you've got the engine and modding tools to tweak it, then by all means, throw in some more under/overgrowth. Four miles of land, two huts and a palm tree.... two miles of open land, a tank spawn, and some trees.... Just seems like it's missing the "Vietnam feel."
Sure... you could say I'm missing the point since it's an attempted re-hash of an older map ("the original version didn't have such-and-such so they didn't put it in"). But again, I say if you've got the engine and the tools to tweak it, then do so.
Ender has a point - the screenshots on that German site don't seem to make it all too appealing. It looks like a vast green field with little to no foliage. I think it'd be better to have the essence of the El Al map using BFV's smaller map size - that is, rebuild/port it as a 256x256 map with all the same locations/landscaping as the original El Al. I'd happily do that if I could figure out the editor. :)
El Al was my fav. BF42 map, sweet.....
