I love playing an engineer when I play with friends. The mortar is terrifying weapon when you have someone spot for you and Khe-Sahn is a much different map for the VC when you have someone who can spot for dedicated artillery (with 2 guys on the guns and a fast spotter we can make sure no heli's leave the ground ever). But online with people that have no concept of teamwork or don't look where they leap the engineer is a hazard. So here are a few complaints I have about the Engineer. 1 - Visible markers for friendly booby traps. Nothing like getting kicked from a server after mining an enemy base only to have one of your own guys try to grab a Heli you just placed 3 mines under. 2 - Durable booby traps, any mines/traps you place remain until you switch classes or reach a finite number (say 10). 3 - The ability to actually teleport to the home of whoever is playing a sniper above an enemy spawn or objective flag and slap them silly after they ignore the 3rd "Requesting Target" radio call. :spank: 4 - Give points for destroying objectives like air towers. In Flaming Dart I like playing a U.S. Engineer and C-4ing towers to death (takes 20 per, more or less) but it is a long time doing and is entirely thankless. 5 - Fix the damn SA-7. Heat seeking missiles fly towards a heat source from any direction, not try to get behind it and then toward it. (not really a Engineer complaint but SA-7 guys with TNT are a close second to Sappers) 6 - Make the MUTT wire guided! The Damn Thing was wire guided and would give the US a larger increase in anti Heli weaponry. (not really Engineer Related but, eh) 7 - Trip Wires! As an Alt Fire choice for mines/whatever allow the weapon to have a trigger radius at the expense of impact and extended set-up time. 8 - The M14 is a much better weapon than the Mat49 but they have made it so inaccurate in game I can hit targets at medium much more consistently with bursts from the Mat49. Not to mention it needs a historically accurate 20 round clip instead of the 10 rounder. 9 - Give the M-14 and Type56 a bayonet (Bayonet instead of machete/plantation knife/knife and alt click to attach it to the rifle, then the rifle's alt fire is replaced with a melee attack that is fast and has double the range of a normal knife slash). Whew, that was a Bit o Typin. I would be glad to see even 3 of those above poitns added. :uhm:

HaugfatherI love playing an engineer when I play with friends.

Having been a BF-series Engineer/Artillery soldier for such a long time now, I feel your pain, son. It seems no one appreciates the long range power of the various tools at their disposal...

1 - Visible markers for friendly booby traps. Nothing like getting kicked from a server after mining an enemy base only to have one of your own guys try to grab a Heli you just placed 3 mines under.

That DOES suck, especially, as VC, when I booby trap a UH-1H. WHen I booby trap them you'd never see it UNLESS you were looking in the windows, and even then you might not see it. They need a visual indicator like BF42 had for landmines.

2 - Durable booby traps, any mines/traps you place remain until you switch classes or reach a finite number (say 10).

How about making them last til at least 10 seconds after you die? It sucks that traps only last a couple minutes.

3 - The ability to actually teleport to the home of whoever is playing a sniper above an enemy spawn or objective flag and slap them silly after they ignore the 3rd "Requesting Target" radio call. :spank:

And the 4th. And the 12th. And the 16th. Seriously, if you're a sniper you have a damned job to do, and it's not all about sneaking around to find a cool spot to shoot guys. The thing that ticks me off even more is that in BFV far more kits have binoculars. People just don't know how to use them. Though I have noticed even with my friends spotting I get really bad targets in BFV. They've been my scout support since BF42. They know how to target, yet the camera is too far away, or just 'off' from the intended target.

4 - Give points for destroying objectives like air towers. In Flaming Dart I like playing a U.S. Engineer and C-4ing towers to death (takes 20 per, more or less) but it is a long time doing and is entirely thankless.

I've exhausted this argument on another thread. Engineers should get points for: - Blowing up towers. - Fixing team-occupied vehicles.

5 - Fix the damn SA-7. Heat seeking missiles fly towards a heat source from any direction, not try to get behind it and then toward it. (not really a Engineer complaint but SA-7 guys with TNT are a close second to Sappers)

Cobra missiles as well.

6 - Make the MUTT wire guided! The Damn Thing was wire guided and would give the US a larger increase in anti Heli weaponry. (not really Engineer Related but, eh)

I agree here as well.

7 - Trip Wires! As an Alt Fire choice for mines/whatever allow the weapon to have a trigger radius at the expense of impact and extended set-up time.

The claymore has an activate radius, but it's direction sensitive. Unfortunately you get them on maps with too much open space, and not on - oh, say - Ho Chi Minh Trail... where you could really use the direction blast to guard that back entrance to the tunnel.

8 - The M14 is a much better weapon than the Mat49 but they have made it so inaccurate in game I can hit targets at medium much more consistently with bursts from the Mat49. Not to mention it needs a historically accurate 20 round clip instead of the 10 rounder.

The MAT-49 is far too accurate compared to the M14. The M14 needs the power/impact of the former M60 (pre-patch) with more ammo.

9 - Give the M-14 and Type56 a bayonet (Bayonet instead of machete/plantation knife/knife and alt click to attach it to the rifle, then the rifle's alt fire is replaced with a melee attack that is fast and has double the range of a normal knife slash).

Again, having been an engineer throughout BF1942, I say that would ROCK. When RTR came out I was so psyched to have the opportunity to lance people with the bayonet. I think for BFV it would be great.

I don't want to be overly redundant here, so I'll just say that I agree with pretty much everything you two have listed. I ESPECIALLY think that (1) engies should get points for fixing and blowing up things like towers and (2) that all friendly placeable hazards (i.e. traps, mines) have some sort of warning indicator. In BF1942 (in one of the patches) it would at least show you a "be careful... mines are here" skull icon on your screen. This can be easily done for BFV, but I don't just want to see it in a mod... I want in the vanilla game. Maybe a generic skull for mines, pungie sticks, and the like and a similar warning if you approach a vehicle that has been trapped (again, only for friendly placed traps). The way BF1942 worked for placed hazards is that they would remain in place until (1) detonated (explosives being detonated by remote or mines being run over) and (2) when the player who placed them was killed (they would remain for a few seconds afterwards... giving that player the chance to run over, pick up his own kit again, and the placed hazards would then remain until either condition was met yet again). THIS is how it should work for BFV as well, IMHO.
