when you are playing a game online. Do youi look for smaller servers with say a 16-20 person load or do you like to play servers that have a lot more people, say 36+. I only ask this because I have read other topics about someone having computer specs of say a 2.4 gHz machine with 512 o' RAM and a 128 MB card blah...blah...blah... and being abe to play this game with zero lag. I guess I want to make sure were comapring apples to apples here. When I play on a small server *16-20 people*, the game runs like a dream. and I can even crank my settings up somewhat, however when I hit some of the more heavily populated servers *~32+ people*, I need to turn my settings back down to compensate for the higher server load. I also realize that this is not the only factor that determines how the game performs for you, but I think it's a factor not realy touched on when people talk about how well their system plays it. So type you general specs (you don't have to go into super detail here) tell me what kind of servers you look for and how well your machine performs on those servers. I'm not trying to start a pissing match here, just trying to get a better understanding on how well the game performs for you

I love servers with large numbers of people in it, though I also have to make sure my settings are at Medium. Actually, I PREFER larger numbers of players in a game. Makes things more heated and it gets my adrenaline pumping. Here's what I have:

Pentium 4 2.4 GHz 1 GB Corsair PC3200 RAM nVidia GeForce Ti4200 128 MB video card Soundblaster Audigy Soyo Dragon Ultra P4x400 MoBo DiamondMax Plus 80 GB ATA133 HDD Nope, it isn't even remotely close to the coolest rigs out there -- not even in the slightest. When I built it up over a year ago, it wasn't even top of the line then... just what I could afford. But, with settings all at medium, resolution at 800x600, lightmaps and shadows on, all sounds on, the game runs just dandy on full servers (I don't mind the 800x600... especially since I can snag really high framerates even with heavily populated servers). The few times the game has chunked on me have been either anomolies (VERY rare) but usually when there's at least one or two other people on the server getting seriously bad ping times. I'm not sure if everyone else realizes this, but if someone on a heavily loaded server is suffering from serious netlag, everyone suffers at least a little bit. Can't wait to have the vote implemented with the 1.1 patch (at least I think it will be) so that we can vote off those with serious netlag issues.

That's just the point, I don't get any lag unless there's a serious firefight (and it's framerate related "lag"). BUT, I think it's mostly due to everything turned down to Medium. It's the netlag that's the issue with some high player loaded servers. Anyhow, I'd love to upgrade the video card, but uh... I have better things to spend my money on. Game plays just dandy. :nodding:

AMD Athlon 2000+ XP 760+ Megs PC133 Ram ATI 9200 128Megs Soundblaster Audigy 2 LS Game setting on low, except screen resolution next size up from 800x600 32 bit. I get around 50 FPS, when I get into a fierce fire fight, or am yankin, and bankin in a Mig 21 it drops to about 35 FPS.

ECGNetworks used to have a really high load server. Haven't checked it out in a while, so I don't know if it's still up. If so, check it out for lots of people and very low lag.
