What I find is the best trick if you dont have or your not bothered to use a joystick is to use the keys but raise the sensitivity to a quite high level.
Mouse and Keys

To fly planes i used the joystick. For choppers i use a combination of keyboard and joystick.
I used a Logitech Freedom 4.2 Joystick for a while in 1942, DC, EOD, FH and BFV and it worked great. Everyone says joysticks dont work well with helos, I think the exact opposite. My Freedom 4.2 worked so well for me flying helos, using the handle twist to turn w/o moving and leaning for handle to turn and move plus the throttle worked great. With the keywboard your either at full throttle or no throttle. I for some reason cannot fly with the keyboard and mouse very well. I have never tried turning up the sensitivity for the keyboard to fly, so I think I will try that right now. My Freedom's calibration is now permantely off, I've tried Logitech's tools and help but it wont change. I want to get another Freedom, but it broke so fast(in like 6 months) I am hesitent to buy one.
I use a keyboard for planes and i use mouse for helicopters.
