How about a Battle of Britain-style map where the US gets a bunch of B-29s and bombs a major Japanese city? Don't get me wrong, I'm not talking about Hiroshima or Nagasaki here, just the massive firebombings that preceded them.

Well, I always like the ideas of bomber vs fighter maps. However, they seem to get shot down pretty bad by many in the community. However, did B29's every really face any fighter opposition?

The B-29's when they first arrived over Japan could fly at 25,000-30,000 ft and many of the japanese fighters were ineffective against them. Plus they were pretty fast compared to the B-17 and B-24.

But there is a crosswinds in Japan that made bombing at altitude difficult. The Norden bombsights couldnt account for what they couldnt predict and accuracy was bad as a result. The order was given for the B-29's to bomb from much lower altitudes where they were vulnerable to fighters and flak. Then the fighters took a toll.
