I posted a thread under a simmilar name, but I was playing around on FH tonight with the map Saipan, and I decided to see how much damage a Japanese plane would do to a Carrier or Battleship. Sadly I found that they did no damage whatsoever, this made me think of how cool it would be if you could make an entire battle centered around the Kamakazi raids carried out during the battle of Okinawa. If possible, you could code the aircraft to damage the carriers, battleships, etc when they collided with them. I thought this would make an excellent objective map where the Americans have to keep the Ships afloat and the Japanese destroy it. Maybe just make this possible for a specific map so the idea isnt exploited during every Pacific map.

I think this would be a wicked awsome map, now that the AA is actually good.

Just have an open ocean style map, and americans have a fleet of ships (1 carrier, 1 or 2 battleships, 2 or 3 destroyers, maybe a few pt boats) and Japanese spawn in the air (ala wake or philipines) with 6 or so constantly spawning kamakazi aircraft. Japs gotta knock out the entire fleet (yanks will have no place to spawn) and americans gotta hold off the kamakazi's until the japanese tickets run out.

The ohka already uses kamakazi code, so It would be easy to stick it onto a larger aircraft.

anyone know what aircraft they used?

PS: I also found a website with photos of "elite" kamakazi pilots.

... how exactly does one become an elite kamakazi pilot?

PPS: lol, i also found this translated speach that Lieutenant-Commander Goro Nonaka gave soon-to-be kamakaze pilots: "All right you little gods. You've had the balls to come this far, now we'll see if you can go all the way! Me, I'm just an ordinary guy! If you've brought your name cards, you might as well donate them to the war effort, because your not going to need them! And if you're still virgins, you better go out and get laid right away!"

marine84, you shouldn't be surprised at the little damage done to a ship by a regular japanese plane. Kamikazes planes were outfitted with massive bombs which would do a lot of damage to ships.

It'd be a cool map if there are specilized kamikaze planes. It'd also be cool to see the manned torpedoes the japanese used. Although largely ineffective due to the slow speed of subs they did achieve some victories.

I do wish however that the collision damage for crashing planes into vehicles would be reduced all across the board, although crashing a plane into a tank would kill it in real life pilots usually valued their lives more than that. It'd be nice to not reward or encourage people that due it and then ask for praise because they believe they did something that actually required skill.

Ahh, Divine wind again eh? What aircraft did they use? Just about everything, except basically its best fighters and antibomber fighters. They would use some types of their obsolete medium bombers, maybe their least succesful twin engine heavy interceptors, lots of training aircraft, zeros, etc. Also as to "elite" kamikaze pilots, are you sure you are not confusing them with pilots of "Special attack groups"? Usually these guys escorted the Kamikaze I believe and at least one unit was equipped with the deadly Ki-84 Hayate.

Man I would play that map. I already love slamming into the carrier on Iwo Jima with the okha (or baka) bomb. Nothing beats riding a human guided missile.

No, im certain it said "elite kamakaze pilots" in the photo caption (about 6 or 7 young japanese men). I'd post it if i could find it again.

I have improvised this technique at the moment with any plane carrying a bombload. Just before I hit the ship, I release the ordinance resulting direct bomb hits and the whole kamakazi feel.

Sometimes they were fitted with explosives and such, other times they weren't either way the British fared best against Kamikaze attacks. Their flattops had heavily armored flight decks compared to American flattops, so they took very little damage.
