Since torpedo planes in FH only carry one fish, and since it is damn near impossible to even the broad side of a battleship without it going under (even right next to it at 3 feet above the water), i think that it would be a great thing if the FH modders made it so that torpedoes from planes are more likely to hit their target. Otherwise, torpedo planes will continue to be just a strafer with a torpedo stuck to it that ppl will probably just end up dropping on the deck of the enemy ship doing minimal damage.

There's a certain skill to drop torpedoes, even in vanilla bf; and they're made to be that way.

I think that like you say, the torps need tweaking (I haven't actually tried a torpedo run in FH at all), but all I'd suggest is probably one-shot-kill should the magazine of the ship be hit, otherwise the torp should do a heap'n help'n pile o' damage to the ship.

You won't hit if you drop it close. Fly near the surface and then drop it at some distance.

Fly perpendicular to the ship, and about when the length of the ship is about to touch the edge of your screen, drop the torp. You should see it 'swim' ahead of you. It'd pay to bank away while still low and come around for another pass.

You should be really low, almost about to 'land' on the water.

Torpedo's in the bf engine behave like bullits......once released they will continue in that angle in the water.

If you divebomb them in the water under 45 degrees they will continue that angle and drive themselves straight into the bottom.

You only deliver a succesfull attack when releasing a torpedo flying parallel to the water surface, or climbing gently up. (a torpedo cannot fly out of the water)

When you dive and release the torpedo, it will head for the bottom of the ocean/sea, and you will miss unless the bottom of the ship is in the way. ( that explains your only hitting very close range )

Btw : a torpedo in bf1942 did only 1/4 the damage if released as a bomb on the ship, without going through water !

And as i showed with pics the direction in wich you hit the tiger tank sides reduces damage at an angle, it worked the same way for torpedo's and ship grenades in bf1942......if you fire them in an angle 30 degrees on the side, you get less damage then fire them 90 degress straight on the sides......

Thank you. I'll try that out. And hopefully, the torpedoes will be tweaked a little bit.

I have been able to trop sucessfully on that mod, many times. Not that hard in my opinion, and if you do it right, you can never get hit by AA guns, lol. Still working on that though....

Japanese tactics in WW2 were for torpedo bombers to come in at roughly a 45 degree angle off the nose. If the ship didnt turn it would get hit by 2 torps. Whichever direction it turned exposed the other side to a good hit.

The reason torpedo squadron 8 was wiped out at Midway was not so much that the Devestator sucked that bad but because on the torpedo run the plane has to fly straight and level at a slow speed and about 20-50 ft off the water. Just like level bombers during the torpedo run they are sitting ducks. And since the torpedo bombers missed their fighter escort the Zeros were wading through the torpedo bombers at will. The Zeros could not have had a better target if the torpedo bombers had been served on a silver platter.

And the Devestators replacement saw its first combat at Midway also. All but one was shot down and the survivor was too badly shot up to fly again.

You need to level you're plane like on this picture, get close to the water and you have a 99% change to hit it. http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/library/report/2000/torpdrosm.gif http://www.world-at-war.com/reviews/cfs2/Torpedo_Away!.jpg

there should be locationbased damage, because if you did hit the magazine, then... KABOOM! just like the Hood
