This is a quote from a BF:V interview:

"Mausen : Given then the copyright and trademarks, would you allow a mod team to do this?, go ahead and say "We're creating this mod team now, our aim is to convert the Battlefield 1942 maps to the new game"? A.J. Marini : Yeah, I mean, copyrights and so and so forth, only come to play when you're talking about sales. If you plan to profit of it in some ways, we're going to have some objection to that. If you're just a fan, and want to convert it, do the work, I mean, we can't stop you from doing something that doesn't gain you any income, if people are profitting off of our work, ok, then we have to have some sort of say in that, to protect our interests. But if it's just enthusiasm, no reason."

If you can use the maps, can't you use the models too then? I really hope so.

btw the interview can be found here

That *does* sound very promising. Hopefully they'll make it easy enough to convert to the new engine. Coupled with supposed better modding tools it might be quite good a move.

I wouldn't want to be waiting another 6months for 0.7 to appear on BFV tho! :p

I remember seeing somewhere that the BF1942 models, for statics, vehicles, players... were being included for modders.

I could be mistaken though.

If they want the game to be a success like BF then they will do. Also they want to compete against the likes of HL2, Farcry & Soldner that should be out this year. the BF engine has alot of potential to do more if DICE and EA allow the modders to do it.

You could have pilots that blackout, infantry that crawl along the ground when shot in the leg, tanks that can lose operation of individual crewmembers depending on where hit & the removal of 'energy bar' damage.

But they need to give the tools to do that.

Wouldn't this mean it's okay to use stuff from RTR and SWOWWII (in FH) too?

It might be unlikely, but we can always hope. It would mean at the very least we could have proper bayonet anims. ;)

I'd rather see DICE release an SDK first.

Would a petition work? I know I'd sign it.

I don't want an SDK, it would do more harm than good.
