Pentium 4 (P7) 2.4B on an Intel D845PESV 768MB PC2700 SDRAM (1x512, 1x256) Gigabyte Radeon 9600XT 128MB SoundBlaster Audigy2 playing through Creative Inspire 5300's WD800JB I play with all sound and video settings maxed, as well as forced 6xAA/16xAF. The only lag I get with any regularity it due to my craptastic 56k connection.I'm also curious, I have almost the EXACT same set-up, cept' I have a P4 2.6, same RAM and AC97 on-board sound. My vidcard is a 128 meg GeForce Ti4200. I run it at 2xAA and 2xAF. It runs great,I have full detail on, but there's no way I can increase those settings except maybe 4xAA. That 9600XT is maybe 30% faster than my card. I think with a 56K some of that lag you're getting is due to you vidsettings, but you blame it on your connection. Youve got to be pulling some serious lag with a dial-up.
Oddly enough, my pings are usually around 20-30. Now, I do suffer serious fits of packet loss now and again, particularly on maps with many players and objects, and those often result in 700+ pings and disconnects, but otherwise most of the lag I get isn't clientside (framerate drops to [well] below 40 at times, but it's usually only momentary and rarely long enough to be detrimental to gameplay). Bear in mind that ATI's cards are much better at AA/AF than nVidia cards (which is the primary reason I replaced my old Ti4200 128). Yeah, the 9600XT isn't all that much more powerful than it, but it's much better at rendering 3D without choking. mondogenerator~ You say your system is tweaked? To what extent, and according to what? Like I said, when I went through that Tweaktown guide, it absolutely killed performance, even when I set up my own LAn game and in singleplayer. Currently, I think the only thing I've changed is VideoDefault.con's "renderer.allowAllRefreshRates," which I've set to 1.
Well, what I found out is if you bring up your paging file, you'll get better performance(not too high though). This is because it uses it as if it was RAM.
Hey,did disabling fast-write help?
Athlon XP 2800+ (2.083) [166Mhz (333FSB)] 2 x 512 MB PC2700 333Mhz MSI Ti-4600-VT2D8X (current core clock 312 Mhz / RAM clock 660 Mhz) Creative Audigy 2 ZS DSL 768kbit/s with fastpath
Running BF and all mods with 1024x768x32 in 100 Hz with highest details, but with shadows switched off.
No Anti-Aliasing or Anisotrop Filterings either.
Ohieon, does the Omega driver effect Call of duty by any cahnce, i remember having to download a special fix for ATI card because of CoD, and i havnt downloaded a driver since
mondogeneratorATI cards don't support Fastwrite.
How the hell did you get that to work and get more than a frame a second. I have the same setup but with Corsair DDR400 (3200) low latency and a 9700 pro so in theory more powerful and I my system is tweaked as much as it can and I wouldn't attempt those FSAA and AF settings as I'd only get maybe 15 frames a second when theres more than a few people on screen. When theres allot going I'd probably only get 5-10 fps.
I got Athlon XP 1700+, 512MB RAM and Radeon 9600 Pro, and i play with all settings maxed and 4X AA and 16X AF. Gameplay is completely smooth all the time.
It seems to me that AA and AF have a very little effect on performance for my. I even play lock-on with 4X AA and 16X AF, and that game is real resource eater :)
This card is performing much better than i thought, best 160 euros i have ever spent. :)
