Now, I know this first question has probably been discussed a bajillion times, but as ex-noobs yourselves you all know how annoying it is when somebody tells you to use search...seriously, the only things I find with that are off-topic discussions. So please answer :)

1) When I play BF1942: SW, my mouse, first of all, is faster on the x axis than on the y axis, and secondly lags just a bit. I have a P42.8 and a GF4Ti4200 running on medium detail, so my hardware can't be it. What do you suggest?

2) Whever I do a sharp turn, there is a LOT of ghosting (i.e. afterimages). I am not using an LCD monitor. What could be causing this? Is this normal?
