I didn't make it!
I remember, back in 1942, when those great battleships would cruise the Pacific to hammer some enemy villages with heavy canons while defending themselves from airstrikes that would eventually send them deep into water. And the submarines, do you remember how fun it was to dive and chase a battleship with a periscope? What ever happened to them in BF2?! Why have we lost our Navy and some beautiful sea battles? :bawl: Can we ever dream of seeing them again? In a new mod? In BF3? Somewhere... oh please... we demand that the Navy be brought back to us:0wned:!!!
Was mentioned to me a while ago bout creating a sea mod. It would definetly be worth a look. I miss the big guns myself but dont know if I have the time to build the objects these days. Perhaps if there was enough skilled people interested in doing it, it may happen.....big may though
Because DICEA didn't have a physics engine that could cope with players standing on moving objects. Luckily for modders, they included an up/down key for ramps and subs etc, even though this is not utilised anywhere ingame for vanilla.
Also they probably thought that "Pah, people that play battlefield don't care about historical accuracy (not something that the series is strong on anyway [Nazi jetpacks anyone?]) so therefeore they won't have heard of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Praying_Mantis or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Prime_Chance or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Earnest_Will so they won't mind a total absence of naval combat in BF2"
Well, that's my theory anyway.
They all went to the village people to burn them at the stake and poke them with pitchforks for that damnable "In the Navy" song and all the seamen jokes :p Anyways having battleships would be nice in BF2, like a whole new artillery... oh god no >< WHAT AM I SAYING.... Take out artillery maybe then we can have those otherwise you wouldnt even beable to spawn, or have long cooldowns. As with the DICE physics engine I have to agree with that, it would be worse than half life 1 vehicles (Anyone remember?) Maybe if they tried adopting sources physics engine (Very very nice in my opinion, in CS:S and HL2 now) But god forbid that bungie physics engine from Halo 2 (You die, you fall, your body spazzes, maybe does a flip or two liek a fish, spins, then you stay still until a nade comes and your arms go a flailing)
I dont mind naval absense, since there is no need for it in the storyline. and because actual warships are total crap comparing to gigantesc battleships of WWII (my opinion) i think the WWII ones are much more exciting to fight with, since actual ones only fire rockets and are made of paper(figurativly speaking) + the rockets are guided so really, no fun. and if u really want em, wait for the mods, FH2 already got a sub working on the BF2 engine, so just wait...
part2: you said, where did our navy go? you probably think Dice should make an overpowered USnavy, while china and MEC would get only worthless nutshells so your so called supercountry could pwn the hell out of the enemy? and dont give me some of that 'realistic' stuff answers, because BF2 is not a realism game, its a gameplay oriented game...
Ouch, that hurt bad...
Ya know you could just give the attacking team a navy if there are large amounts of water and just give them cannons like what tanks or the AA or APC's have maybe a few laser guided missles (Thinking like the jet ones or the heli's) just something like that

Yes it is a game ....So you don't need to make a poke at the " supercountry". But any rate. The English had the best navy. I think at this point it would drive the game way beyond it's limitations. There are just some things you can not add to a game without having issues. That much movement... lol man .. If you think you have people complaining they don't have team work or that they have to wait for vehicles now? what do you think would happen if they got to play on one of the airline carriers. What crew are you going to get to load the guns ?
Technically it's the Royal Navy, not the english navy, meaning it belongs to the whole of Great Britain. Yo' be disrespectin' all de Scottish, Welsh an N.Irish sailors :p
well you know what they used to say scicom: " The sun never sets on the Britsh empire " and " Her magisty's Royal Navy shall take it to you"
