well its pretty simple but its got me stumped. whenever i try to do anything to do with the internet it just gives me an error saying "there was a problem with the connection, please check your network connection and try again". well my internet was definatly working, it seems that it cant find the connection with the new patch. help would be appreiciated :confused:
1) I'm not completely sure I have this straight. Essentially, you say that you can't do anything with the internet now. Nothing at all. So I take it that you are on a different computer in order to make this post. Have I got that right? 2) Or is this only a problem only with the game and the game only? If it's #1 then go here... Control Panel --> Network Connections --> Local Area Connection (the name of yours might be different from 'Local Area Connection') Look at the status of your connection there. If it says 'Disabled' then right-click on it and then click 'Enable'. The status should change from 'Disabled' to 'Connected'. If it's #2 then I don't know that I can help, but what Firewall hardware/software are you using? The answer to that question might help someone else to be able to help you. After re-reading your post I'm guessing it's #2. If I could just come to your house and have a look in person... arrrghh! You might get some kind of a glimpse as to what's wrong if you use a tool that watches your connection and gives information, in a manner of speaking, on what is coming in and going out. its only the game, well it just wont let me log in on an online account, therefore i cant do anything like multiplay or checkin my stats. everything worked with the firewall until i got the patch :( i will try ethereal thanks
You didn't say what kind of Firewall you're using. People might be able to help with it. I wish you good luck at any rate.

I'm having the same problem. I have been playing the Demo BF2, and was fine until yesterday. Today, I cannot connect to the account server. I don't know my patch version #. I didn't consciously download any patches in the last couple days. (Might it have happened automatically?) My internet connection is fine: I'm using the same comp to write this post. I am not running antivirus or any firewall (other than XP's built in one.) I'm behind a Netgear MR814 router with a hardware firewall, connected to a Netgear FS108 Switch. I dont' know what has recently changed, but I'm paranoid, and currently unable to get Trendmicros (online) Housecall to scan my comp... so I'm wondering if I somehow got infected while playing. Is that possible?

erm i'm runnin norton antivirus and norton internet security
well i just reinstalled the game and multiplayer worked fine without the patch but when i installed the patch it gave me the "connection failed" error :( its confusing
I would have to agree, that is confusing. I use Norton's SystemWorks 2005 and Norton's Personal Firewall 2005 and I don't have any trouble. Try... Opening your Norton's Firewall --> Personal Firewall --> Configure --> Programs tab --> Scroll down to BF2 --> Click on BF2 to highlight it then click on the 'Remove' button at the bottom. Now you can click the 'Add' button at the bottom and add it back in making sure that it has permission to access the net. -OR- Start BF2 and when it starts you should get prompted by a pop-up that you can click to allow it permission to access the net. yeah it did that when i first got he game but i couldnt stually see it, i had to do it with the screen blank lol, its no the firwall thats the problem because it worked before i installed the patch but not after :(
