This sounds like either a driver problem or a hardware problem. First make sure you have the latest drivers for your vid card, sound card and motherboard and the latest version of DX. I am thinking at the moment if the sound is looping then it is likely a vidcard problem. If it still happens after getting the latest drivers then check for vidcard overheating.

I went thru the same problem also, What is your power supply watts ? I had a power supply 3.0, I also have 2 dvd drives, a floppy and zip drive. I worked on this problem for almost a month, Reformatting zeroed out the HD, and upgrated all the drivers, Still I had no success. I was told that my Vid card was over heating, and I have a temp program that came with the intel board, and it always was within a good range. So the next thing I did was tell a friend about it that builds computers. He said Being that BF2 vis a high end graphics game and all the Hardware that in in your computer Maybe the power supply is not enough to run everything. So the next thing I did was buy a Power supply 600 watt, and Installed it Installed doom 3 cause it was crashing too. and BF2 and BF1, and everthing ran really good. So with all the hardware I had in my puter the power supplyt wasn't enough or it was going bad. Good luck with everything. This is just something I went thru as you are , and thats what finally fixed my problem... OH I forgot.. I upgraded my VID card from a Nvidia 128 mg card to a ATI 9550 - 256 mg because the 128 would not run the game not enough mem i guess. But then all computers are different and this is just the problem I had, almost the same. I have a Pentium 4, 1 gig mem, 256mg vid ati card.
