BF2 runs fine , but when i try to install the patch i get the following errors: *unable to get windows drives *unable to get bf2 drive *unable to get available disk space *you have too little diskspace on your harddrive to patch BF2(TM), You need at least 2090 mb. I haven't the slightest idea why i get the diskspace error, for i have 229 gb of diskspace left. If i try to uninstall BF2, i get the following error: *The installed version of the application could not be determined. The setup will now terminate. I doubt it has something to do with my system specs, for i have played BF2 before without any problems. But here are my system specs anyways. Processor:Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6300 @ 1.86GHz (2 CPUs) Memory: 1022MB RAM Hard Drive:316 GB Video Card:NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GTS Monitor:Plug and Play Monitor Sound Card:SigmaTel Audio Speakers/Headphones:Creative Keyboard:USB Root Hub Mouse: USB Root Hub Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (2600.xpsp_sp2_qfe.070227-2300)
Also, this SAME EXACT error occures with BF2142. ALL of my OTHER games uninstall fine. Have I deleted an important file? Please help.:bawl::bawl::bawl:
Ok. My recommendation is that you go in there and remove the files for BF2 and BF2142 your self. Reinstall BF2 and 2142 and try and install the patches again. Whats your MOBO manufacturer and whats your chipset (915PCY for example). 12 minutes later: Who ever your MOBO manufacturer is go to their website select BIOS upgrades and select your chipset. Download and install a new BIOS and do a reboot if it doesn't by its self.
Ok, ive manually removed BF2, along with BF2142 but when i insert the disk, it doesn't give me the option to install it. It only has the option to uninstall, or start the game. But it's not installed! Im a little confused as to why this is happening.
Heres another thing. Contact EA through their support thing (must have an account) and tell them what you have done and what you can't do. It'll take 12-24 hours for them to reply. They should be able to help you out better than I can. Tell them you have manually removed all the files related the game that you know of. Tell them that you can't install the game. And ask them are there any files in your registry folders. They are a great help if you let them do their job.
yup getting errors from new patch.......what a surprise, EA your the best :moon:
Ok, after following EA's manual uninstallation instrustions, ive finally gotten BF2 to the point where i have the option to install it. But i still get the error when i try to install: *The installed version of the application could not be determined. The setup will now terminate. Ive asked for help on EA's tech support. I still haven't received a reply. But if no one there can help me, hopefully SOMEONE here can. :uhm:
ok obviously you guys haven't been let in on the secret, so allow me to let you in on the secret ... SHhhhhhhh ...
To the OP: Have you cleaned out your registry of the keys involved ? If you haven't, i would download something along the lines of REGSCRUB 3.2 and let that clean the registry ... Try that and hit us back.
I forgot that Dice made the code. Oops. :(
Ok, ive downloaded regscrub 3.2... but im not sure how to use it. Can you tell me how step by step? I don't want to delete anything important. :uhm: Also, here is what EA told me to do. 1. If you are using a Windows 2000 or Windows XP machine, you need to have administrative permission to run an Install Shield setup. Make sure the account you are using has administrator access. 2. Try cleaning out your C:\Windows\Temp directory. Do not delete the folder itself, rather open the folder, select all of the contents, and then delete them. Don't worry that you will erase something that you'll need, the system will tell you if you are about to delete something that your computer is currently using. 3. Double-click the My Computer icon and then navigate to ""C:\Program Files\Common Files\Install Shield"". Move the Engine folder to your desktop and then rerun the setup. This should replace the Engine folder within the Install shield folder for you. 4. Reinstalling Internet Explorer (IE) 6.x can also repair a number of corrupted/missing core Windows files from your machine, so reinstalling IE 6.x is also suggested. Go to http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie to download and install the newest version. 5. Make sure that you are using the latest version of the Install Shield engine. To install the latest engine, go to http://support.installshield.com/kb/view.asp??pcode=ALL&articleid=Q105097 and follow the instructions on the page. Now, restart the computer and before you re-install the game, make sure that you have closed down the background applications. Windows XP -------------------- Make sure that you have closed any programs or tasks running in the background as sometimes one of the programs can conflict with the game. Background applications such as anti-virus programs are often the cause of conflicts. Hold down the Ctrl, Atl, and Delete keys at the same time This will bring up the "Task Manager", follow the steps bellow in order: 1) Click the "Processes" 2) Click on the User Name button to sort by user name 3) Click on anything besides EXPLORER and TASKMGR for this User Name or other user names. Do NOT select anything for SYSTEM, LOCAL SERVICE, or NETWORK SERVICE. 4) Click on END PROCESS 5) Repeat steps 3 and 4 until only explorer.exe and taskmgr.exe are open for this user profile. Ive tried everything. But none seem to work. I still get the same error when i try to install. The installed version of the application could not be determined. The setup will now terminate :(
