I have a problem in which battlefield 2 will hang when i attempt to join a server. I have downloaded the latest patch, although it did the same thing before patching as well. The single player works fine, and I have no firewall enabled. Upon choosing a game server to join, the "Joining Game" dialogue box pops up, but stays there. The backround music also fades. I have left it on that way overnight just to make sure it wasnt a case of impatience, and it still remained frozen that way. When i ctrl-alt-delete, battlefield two is shown as not responding and using all my cpu. Any ideas? Below are my system specs 2.8 Ghz 6200 gt 256 DDR 512 Mb RAM -Again, no internet protection I use SBC yahoo DSL to connect. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

I had a similar problem. Try close all background programmes in task manager. Go into MSCONFIG and in 'Start up' disable all. I think that partly fixed it for me, before trying to game again I also cleaned out my Registry, you can get programmes to do that automaticly though.

When you say similar, what exactly do you mean? also, wont a blanket disable of the startup programs cause other problems? And you say it partly fixed it for you... what do you mean partly? thanks :)

To think about it more closely, I tried to join a game sometimes and it would say 'joining game' while the menu was still behind, afew minutes later it would say it faild or whatever. If it didn't do that then when I got in game no radar or anything would load up, just view of map, no chat or anything, then would go back to main menu and say failed connection or whatever. After half a year of it becoming more and more common each time I tried to play the game (but hadn't properly got to play the game) I went through some long process with some old guy who was into net gaming, took me through loads of stuff with teamspeak. The only thing I really remember was getting the proceses to a minimum by using task manager and disabling the start up programmes in MSCONFIG, and going through the registry stopping all sorts of programmes and whatever. BF2 is a very fragile and buggy game in my opinion. I'm pretty sure it wouldn't mess up your computer, but wait for someone else to come to thread or don't blame me.

maximum-ptry and join a server closer to you

I have tried to join servers near and far, searching for very low ping as well, and nothig works. Also, when the game freezes, i have to reboot my computer (nothing responds) so you can imagine that trying a new server is a very tedious process.... I just want to play bf2! i meet the miniumum requ's, why! WHY!

I have had a quick look around, a few other ppl playing BF2 have reported a lot of problems with SBC Yahoo DSL. Do you have a friend nearby with a diffrent ADSL provider who can let you borrow his connection for an afternoon to test and see if it is your computer or not? That will narrow it down to either the provider or the computer.

Well, If you want to play BF2 really bad.. I still had really laggy problems and crashing before I even got into the game. It developed a new problems which I haven't managed to get rid off, until I formatted my hard disk the other day, Good chance that doing that will sort it out.
