I have downloaded several maps and cannot get them to work. I compared the map files that came with the game and found that the maps that I downloaded seem to be missing a file called "archive.md5". The maps show up on the list along with the others but when I go to load them it crashes back to desktop. Is there a way to fix this problem

The Md5 is not really required dont worry about that. You do not say what maps you downloaded and if you tried to play maps in vanhilla or a mod? Note: If you download custom maps that are made for a mod then additional items may be required i.e models and skins to run the maps. If you do not have the extra custom items then the map will refuse to load. Example: Operation peacekeeker, project reality, nations at war, AIX, Bomsf and many other maps made for a specific mod will not run in stock Bf2 or Xpack.
