When I try to start BF2, the BF2 loading screen shows up, then the screen turns black, then it goes back to desktop. I just installed the 1.12 patch and I used the reduce lag technique ( http://forums.filefront.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=217620 ) before I applied the patch. I'm pretty sure this is keeping the game from starting, but I don't know how to fix it!

I've got the exact same problem. I tried to start a custom map, and it crashed. Now, whenever I try to start BF2, it crashes to the desktop the same way as is described above. Can anyone help? I REALLY don't want to have to reinstall.

Yea, I have reinstalled. Now I am patching, it's been patching for more than 30 minutes and still is going. This is really pissing me off.

Reinstalled too. Crashed again. I'm REALLY pissed off at EA because they messed everything up with 1.12. I can't play now until they release the next patch which will probably be in January.

Sorry to say but it seems to me that there is something seriously wrong with the patch that you mentioned. Because patching shouldn't take 30 minutes. So until the next patch is out, I suggest you uninstall the game, and use a registry cleaner to remove any redundant entires relating to Battlefiled 2 and resintall the game and this time, don't patch it. Once a new patch is out, you can try that, for now just stick to the original version.

i don't think there are any ranked servers running the original game any longer. So you have to patch.

What are your pc specs CRmaster

You patched after using the reduce lag technique? Of course it didn't work, it would have been looking for the files whose name you changed when trying to patch. Now, when you reinstalled did you uni-install THEN delete the game folders in both the My Documents and Program Files folder, if you didn't then that would be causing your problems. You really need to clear everything out before re-installing.

BTW I can't see how it's the patch alone, I know several people locally with BF2 and none of them have had a problem with the patch that wasn't fairly easily fixed.
