I've been away from BF2 for awhile (months), so I decided to play it again last night. I inserted my dvd and clicked play. It loads up to just before the "EA Games" splash screen should pop up, and then it dumps back to the desktop.

I tried using the latest patch, and the same results ensued. So I decided to reinstall the game and try it. I uninstalled BF2, (only saving my profile) and reinstalled it (Full install) to a different hard drive. I then applied the full version of the 1.3 patch. I tried to run the game prior to patching, and it didn't work, nor did it after the patch.

My drivers were my next thought. I think I was running the nForce 6.85 chipset driver and the 91.31 Forceware video driver. I uninstalled my chipset and video drivers, and then used driver cleaner pro while running xp in safe mode to remove any driver junk left behind. I restarted back into normal windows and installed the 6.86 chipset driver and the 91.33 video driver.

Still no difference, BF2 just won't start up. It used to work fine. I'm not sure what's changed since then, nothing significant. I did try some beta nForce drivers a while back, but I removed them and went back to the official ones.

Plenty of other games work fine (Oblivion, COD2, GTA-SA, FEAR, etc.) so I'm, not sure why all of a sudden BF2 is being so finicky. BF2 is the only thing giving me problems.

My operating system, winXP Pro sp2, is fully updated to within the last month, and all other drivers are current as well. My X-Fi just got a driver update a couple days ago. Perhaps I should roll it back, but it would seem strange for a sound driver to prevent the game from loading just to the main menu.

I'm perplexed.

No ideas then?

All I can think of that will fix it for sure is to dump my hard drive and do a fresh XP install. Needless to say, I'm looking to avoid that.

When you copied your profile did you also copy the texture cache from the BF2 folder in "my documets"? If not then clear out your texture cache folders, there may be several if you have mods installed, clear them all and retry.

You may have something there. :)

I didn't copy/paste it, I just left it there when I uninstalled, as it asked if I wanted to delete the profile or not during uninstallation.

Perhaps I'll just delete the BF2 folder in My Documents completely and give it another shot. AFAIK, the only drawback is having to reset my controls configuration (which I could probably save and paste back into the new folder anyways).

I'll post back if it's successful or not...

Deleted the My Documents stuff, and reinstalled the game. Loads up great now.

Thanks for the help AK! :bows:
