Anyone know what could be causing columns of black dashes on the play screen? The game graphics seem okay other than the black dashes... they are evenly sized and spaced and in columns from top to botom on the sides of the screen and a little into the middle. This only happens when we open up a game (Battlefield 2 and Sims 2). It doesn't affect any other computer application or program that we can see. Could it be that we have the wrong video card for gaming? We just installed a new PCI-Express Sapphire Radeon X600XT. Anyone else have any trouble with this card? Thanks!

Can we see a screenshot of what it looks like? Maybe that would help us here at GF a little better.

Sure... =) I'm at work at the moment, but I'll post a screen shot when I go home for lunch here in a couple of hours.

I should also fill you in on what we have already done. We have reformatted hard drive, updated drivers, uninstalled and reinstalled drivers, we tried hooking the computer up to another monitor and got the same graphic problem - so it's not the monitor. We aren't able to try the card in another computer, cuz our other computer has AGP. We have also tried changing the resolution and refresh rate. We checked to make sure all of the plug-ins were connected firmly and properly and checked to be sure the fans were working. We did the Direct 3D tests, and low and behold the dashes show up on the test screen. However, all tests run successfully. So, we were thinking it might the the Direct 3D since that's the only other place we have seen the dashes. Anyway - in the meantime - here are a few diagnostics (sorry to take up so much space): System Information ------------------ Operating System: Windows 2000 Professional (5.0, Build 2195) Service Pack 4 Language: English (Regional Setting: English) System Manufacturer: NVIDIA System Model: AWRDACPI BIOS: Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3000+, ~1.8GHz Memory: 512MB RAM Page File: 218MB used, 1029MB available Windows Dir: C:\WINNT DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904) DX Setup Parameters: Not found DxDiag Version: 5.03.0001.0904 32bit Unicode ------------ DxDiag Notes ------------ DirectX Files Tab: No problems found. Okay... we JUST found out that our new card is messed up. My husband just called me and said he took the computer into a local shop and they tested the card and said it was the culprit.

Sorry to take up all this space only to find out it's the card! So, we are shipping it back to the place we bought it from - hopefully they wont rip us off and tell us that it's not the card or something! Wish us luck on getting our money back. Thanks anyway! Jewlz
