What is the generally accepted reason for running a game and then it just shuts you out to the desktop? I thought I resolved this problem in this particular instance, but it's cropped up again. :(
I'm running Battlefield 2 [haven't played in like 4 months] and it's all working great then I remember I bought the Spec Forces Expansion Pack but I never installed it! So I install it and then run the game [I did not patch after installing SF pack, the game says it's patching to 1.1 as it is installing the SF pack.] and then when the bar comes up to show it's progress it takes like 15 mins to load the game. I reset. I load up SF again and as it gets to 63%, it shuts me out to the desktop.
I'm confused about the order in which I have to install patches. Anybody got SF working for them? [This is not my main question, my main question is about a shut down to the desktop.] I figure, 'okay' so then I try to play normal BF2. Same problem, shuts me out to desktop. So now I think I should un-install the SF pack, BF2, then re-install them both.
I have a good rig for BF2, but I know I should have 2 gig instead of 1 of memory. I have enough PSU [430 watt Antec], and I've not broken 88'F in case temp. I don't run any scripts or mods. I was just a fresh SF install.
Help me please. Thank you.

Try these forums, they are pretty much BF2 specific.

You must run the 1.22 patch again after installing SF...
