Has anyone else installed a copy of the game like a friend etc and using it ? You could try a uninstall/install of the game and if that fails let EA know and they'll be able to help you with a new key.

It isn't EA games issue. It is a DICE issue.... Ea published it Dice coded it. The issue is this ...You have to reinstall it again .. but this time you have to delete the registry key .... and then delete the folders that are left over before your reinstall.

Bloody hell, just typed a really long email referencing the external EA games thread and this forum banned the entry. I felt like not replying after that, but guessed you might be really frustrated if you couldn't get the game working!?.... I had BF2 and SF add on, I experienced the "Invalid CD Key" error too. After looking at the EA games techincal forum I noticed that the ergc folder within the BF2 registry path was missing!! I simply copied it from the Special Forces registry path and it now works!!! You can do this by exporting the SF2 registry path to your desktop, edit the exported details by changing the registry path from SF2 to BattleField 2, then save. Once you double click on the exported file it will be imorted ok for you. Alternatively, do it by hand!! Here was EA Games solution in full...

Sometimes a conflict in the updated files can prevent the game from properly identifying your CD-key. Usually, refreshing your CD-key will resolve the issue. Note that this will only correct the error if you used the same Windows account to install, patch, and troubleshoot the game. If you have switched Windows accounts at any point it is recommended you uninstall, reinstall, and repatch using the same Windows login. If you have Battlefield 2
1. Click Start.
2. Go to Run.
3. Type regedit and hit OK button.
4. Click on plus sign next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
5. Click on plus sign next to SOFTWARE.
6. Double click on Electronic Arts folder.
7. Double click on EA Games folder.
8. Double click on Battlefield 2 folder.
9. Double click on ergc folder. NOTE I HAD TO CREATE THIS
10. Data displayed will probably have x9392 only.
11. Right click on it and select Modify.
12. Type in x9392 and then your CD key.
note

: don’t include hyphens.

Example: x9392(your Battlefield 2 CD key here) If you have Battlefield 2: Special Forces

12. Type in x9392 and then your Battlefield 2 CD key.
note: don’t include hyphens. Double click on Battlefield 2 Special Forces folder. Double click on ergc folder. Data displayed will probably have x9392 only. Right click on it and select Modify. Type in x9392 and then your Battlefield 2 CD key. note: don’t include hyphens. note: do not use your Battlefield 2: Special Forces CD key.

Example: x9392(your Battlefield 2 CD key here)

1. If the issue persists, you will need to uninstall the game completely and then reinstall and repatch to completely remove and replace corrupted files.
