Having installed BF2 & SF expansion and after repatching, when i enter a map (either for singleplayer or multiplayer) it stops loading approx around 15% - when "objects" are loading. This error pops up on my desktop "memory.dll: sanity check: block size -990038848 (3151.83mb) doesn't seem sane". I've tried all avenues of installing BF - patching manually from the patch history. My machine meets all the spec's and then some.

The game will work on the original install, i.e. - no patches.

If anyone out there can interpret this error i would appreciate it.

Below are the spec's of my machine: ------------------ System Information ------------------ Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519) System Manufacturer: Dell Computer Corporation System Model: Dimension 8200 BIOS: Default System BIOS Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.80GHz Memory: 1024MB RAM Page File: 261MB used, 1688MB available Windows Dir: C:\WINDOWS DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904) DX Setup Parameters: Not found DxDiag Version: 5.03.2600.2180 32bit Unicode --------------- Display Devices --------------- Card name: RADEON X800 Series Manufacturer: ATI Technologies Inc. Thanks for the suggestion. I've downloaded the patch from 5 different sites...no luck. I've installed and uninstalled this game about 10 times. Trying different ways to patch. EA Support suggested to patch in SAFE MODE. I tried that and the game would crash back to the desktop at launch!!!!

I have had a quick look around and found few other ppl having similar problems. I don't believe it is an actual BF2 error, but more likely a conflict with another program using memory, things that have been done that fixed it - video drives, try rolling them back a few versions, possible virus or trojan, game mods installed before SF was installed. Another suggested cause is an error in the pagefile (virtual mem), try changing the size or location (ie in another partiton) of the virtual memory, that should reset that if it is a problem. Somebody else also suggested it couold be a mic setting problem, and that if you hiot save settings and you don't have a mic it can cause it, so you should press cancel at the mic settings page.

Well there are a few things to start. If anything actually fixes it please come back and let us know for future reference.

Thanks for your help. I too agree that it may not be a BF 2 error, that's the frustrating part! I actually just reformatted my harddrive and installed BF2 before any of the other junk. I'll explore the virtual memory and I do have a mic but I happen to cancel the mic setting this last install, since I use Teamspeak anyway. These are good suggestions and i'll explore in the next 24 hrs and have the results. Thanks again.

Apocolypse - Had some success, with the ingame mic off I played with the virtual memory, increasing it to my max. I am now able to load a map up to approx. 58 - 65% then the game crashes back to the desktop. I receive no error message. So i guess i'm getting closer, but not sure what next steps to take since i cannot increase my virtual memory further. thanks again.

Well it's day 3 and still no success and lot's of frustration. I've scowered every forum on the world wide web to no avail. In my search I have come across the same problem but there seems to be a lot of assumptions/guess work on how to fix this problem and no solid solution. So I thought I would share two solutions for others who may encounter this issue so you don't waste your time and sanity: 1. pack it up and resell the game on ebay...i took a loss of $2 total for both BF2 & SF...not bad. 2. the more expensive solution but will solve any further issues for any future games. Build yourself a new machine that can handle the qwerks of a game like BF2.

peace out.

Hmm, interesting, it gets further when you play with the memory settings and mic settings, do you have 1 stick iof 1Gb memory or two sticks of 512Mb each? I suggest pulling one and testing, it's soounding more like a memory problem than ever, maybe not faulty, but just not 100% compatible.

4 sticks of 256. All tested ok. As far as my memory and computer overall, everything checks out OK. My thinking has changed back that this is a BF2 problem. On the original install ( no patches ) the game runs fine, but once it is patched, i have the problem. Also other Forums point to BF2 as being the issue as well. I have devoted 3 days to this without resolution and have resigned to the fact it cannot be fixed. thanks for your help.
