I recently changed my video card, and now BF2 won't run.
My system is:
Pentium 4 3.0Ghz 800FSB 1M Cache Asustek P4S800-MX Motherboard 1x 512M PC3200 DDR RAM ; and 1x 1024M PC3200 400MHz DDR RAM 80GB 7200rpm IDE seagate HDD Liteon 812S 8x +/- DVD writer 2x 17inch CRT monitors GeCube ATi Radeon X1300 512meg DDR2 AGP
My old video card was a GeXCube 128M 9600XT and it worked fine.
Now I've put in this new card it wont run at all, it opens with the battle feild 2 screen like normal, the goes to black (and i notice it gets as far as changing my desktop resolution as it normally does) but then it just crahses to desktop with no error message.
I have been having all sorts of computer troubles since installing this card, but I have been able to run other games including CS:S.
I'd appreciate any help, thanks, jatoo
i say either try uninstalling your video drivers and reinstall them and if that dont work uninstall and reinstall the game i know thats a pain but it seems to fix alot of probs
You should go and ask in the tech forum....

actually no .... He shouldn't. That is what this area is for. BF2 Problems, Errors and Help. He is having an issue to a specific game. You have changed your video card, in some cases ( with games after Soldier of Fortune 2), there is still a reference to your old card in the config files for the game. BF2 is known for it's quirky errors. I would bet Reinstalling the game would clear the issue.
hi, thanks for you reply
i have reinstalled the game, and the updates, and still no luck, and i had a few attepts at installing the video card, which involved uninstalling and reinstalling it.
im actually having more problems generally now, can't get the computer to start up at all, but i should be able to fix that tomorrow.
i've heard that uninstalling the game can sometimes leave stuff there, which needs to be removed manually. is that the case? where do i find this stuff? just in the game folder i presume?
i had a look at the list of video cards supported by the game, and i dont think the x1300 was on there. but it should be ok right? im not sure, but the card might have been released afer they made that list.
thanks for any help jatoo

Yes that vid card is ok, however the most important forder to delete is the texture cache folder, which is in the BF1942 folder in "my documents". it is likley a problem in the texture cache that is causing your issue, so try deleting the BF1942 folder in "my documents" and restart the game.
What power supply do you have? I have a 305W and found i needed to upgrade to a 350W after getting a new g card

You mean bf2 folder if you dont customise the installation it will be located on drive C:. I use a 500w (or more cant rember) power supply it came with my case, I have so much stuff in my pc includeing 3 hds i need it.
Well I really broke my computer, but got it fixed and running again now, still having the same problem, it's driving me crazy.
I've reinstalled the game numerous times, reinstalled the vid cards drivers, I've tried uninstalling the game with 'smart uninstaller', I've tried deleting the Battlefeild 2 folder in my documents.... still not working.
My power supply is 300W I believe, and this card does plug into the power, which my previous one didn't. But it runs fine generally. As for games, CS:S works fine as does Flight Sim 2004, but BF2 won't run, neither will Darwinia.
Any more suggestions?

No I don't, I MEAN WHAT I SAID.
BF2 creates a texture cache folder in the "Battlefield 2" folder in the "my documents" folder. These textures caches are created from the video settings of the video card, notice how you have to wait when you change the settings while it caches, that's where they go. When you start BF2 it loads these cached textures. When you change video cards sometimes these cached textures can conflict with the new drivers and cause the game to crash.
