Hi everyone, I just got my new laptop and I installed BF2 MC succesfully. Now I need to patch it up and I tried doing so right away with the patch version 1.41 which is about 536mb. This is where the problem begins.

The wizard pops up and I click next, next, install and once its gets into the progress window, it shuts down and I get another pop up saying patching failed. After clicking ok, it opens the wizard once again and says the patch was succesfully installed even though it wasn't.

Now after this failed patching, I can't get into BF2 because there missing a file called lighting somethin and the game exits back to the desktop.

This is the 2nd version of the same patch I try and I always get the same problem. Does anybody have a solution to my problem? Thanks a bunch, David

need to know what your laptop is/specs, you might want to uninstall/reinstall, sounds like you have a corrupt file or a missing file, but need specs 1st

I have a new dell Vostro 1500 with windows xp home and NOT vista. Also, it has a Nvidia 8600 video card but no dedicated sound card.. just the standard/cheap one. I'm not sure what other specs would be relevant for this problem..

But now I remember something! During the installation part with disc 1, there a message box that poped up and said a certain file is locked (don't remember which one) and asked me to retry or cancel. I selected retry and it just kept on installing.

ok ... well that could be an issue then m8. Try reinstalling it from scratch. wiping out all files that are saved and getting a clean install.... Also, an onboard soundcard is prolly substandard for the game in certain circumstances. Makes it kinda tough.

I'll give it a shot but the funny thing is the game worked flawlessly on my old Inspiron 6000 that had (probably) the same sound card and an ATI x300 graph card. I'll the name of the file that is "locked" and that might yield to more specific solutions.

Alright, I completely uninstalled the game and reinstalled with no "locked" files this time. Its installed succesfully from the cd's but the patch still didn't work saying "patching failed".

After this failure, I tried going into bf2 and I got this error message at startup: "mods/bf2/shaders/lightning.fx not found!!! _DO_check your working directory, _AND_ sync your shaders folder before calling upon your local rendering programmer/GP. (really!)"

If anybody still has suggestions for this problem, please let me know as it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, David

Try downloading the patch from an alternate source ? Where did you get it from ?

The first time around, i got the patch from bf2 files but I later on found a cd which I burnt the patch that I found a couple of months earlier through the EA official site.

So have you tried using both patch methods then >? The patching may have an issue coming off the cd...
