hey guys i bought a maxtor 250 gb hdd like a month ago and it boosted up my performance on bf2 y could play smoothly on 1280 high settings 4XAA but for some reason my hdd failed and had to get a new one got the new one and made two partitions one of 105gb and the one with windows of 127gb i installed bf2 and now im running it on medium settings @ 1152 and it slows down when i get into action i have the latest nvidia drivers and directx 9.oc My system: msi k8t neo-fis2r mobo AMD athlon 64 3000+ @ 2Ghz 512MB Kingston Hyper X DDR @ 3500 Nvidia Geforce 6800GT 256MB MAxtor hdd 250gb Maxtor hdd 40gb any thoughts?

512mb RAM not enough you need 1gb to play it on gd settings with a good frama rate

I've always had 512 and i could run it @ 1280 high settings 4XAA smoothly

even if i've never had 1gb of ram and played it so smoothly ? and suddenly its choppy?

i think your hdd overheated i have 2 hdd. the one is above the other and the heat up so i put a fan to it and it still works

There are things that can affect your performance that may be HDD related. Defragging can help, and yes overheating can affect HDD performance, but if it was getting that hot then odds are it would fail pretty soon.

The only other likely reason I can think of is that your partitioning is affecting the HDD access speeds and that in turn is causing problems because of your swap file, which is why ppl are suggesting more ram, with more ram the game doesn't need to hit the swap file as much. Have you noticed whether or not it is hitting the HDD during the slowdowns?

well i dont think is overheat cause i have 2 80mm and 1 120mm intake fans right infront of the hdds and yes i think the file swap thing is the problem cause it does hit the hdd during slow downs i guess ill have to get another stick of ram :S
