I've just installed Special Forces, and it shows the Battlefield 2 wallpaper, goes black and then drops back to my desktop. Now Battlefield 2 won't even work - it's broken the game! Anyone got any ideas? I just applied patch 1.12 but nothing changed. CD key went in ok XP SP1 Audigy card Radeon 9800 Pro, latest drivers
My advice would be to reinstall. Uninstall everything Delete manually any folders you have left over Reinstall: Bf2 SF patch1.12
ok, I had got the exact same problem. In my case it had to do with my windows frequency ( Hz ). I'm running a Hz-Refresh-Tool, which makes me run games in 100Hz mode (usually games do run in 60Hz mode).
So when having installed BF-SF and the patch 1.12, the game tries to start up in 800x600@60Hz mode. If U r using a HZ-Refresh-Tool ( like Refreshlock or NVRefreshtool ), having changed the default Hz-settings, the game won't start, maybe because of your settings plus ur monitor isn't compatible with this resolution in that Hz-frequency.
Simply try to add a resolution to your graphics card by right-clicking on the desktop choosing NVidia-Display ( I'm having a NVidia-Card so I can just speak for these ).
In the new window goto screen resolution and go to add custom ( user ) defined screen resolution ( I'm running a German system, so I don't know the exact expressions in English, sry ).
Just add 800 in first line, 600 in second line, and 32 bit in third line and 60 Hz in forth line.
Then it should work...
If this doesn't solve the problem, uninstall Ur Refreshlock-programm and repeat the steps I told U above...
Good luck, Greetz O.D.E.S.S.A
thanks for the replies; reinstalling didn't help, although I didn't really think it would as I have only just installed BF2 onto this clean system; it could well be something to do with the graphics card or settings, but I'm not running anything unusual or customised - my card must support 800x600 at 60hz as its a basic setting; though I don't know what else it is trying to do which it doesn't like. But it definitely looks like its trying to do something and then fails . . . thanks anyway :]
gotta love games you need to re-install every friggin time a patch comes out.....!
Hi, I've noticed this problem,It happened to me when I ran BF2 and tried to play a BF2 SF map online,it tried to load but the screen went black then it went back to the desktop. This problem however seems to disappear when you remember that if you start BF2 (original game ) then you can only play Original BF2 maps,to play the BF2 SF maps you need to start The BF2 SF game on its own.I hope this makes sense.Lets hope that a patch is introduced that allows players with both games to run any map they wish without having to load the respective individual copies.:)
Looks like the game is screwed - here's a clip from the review on Gamespy - "On two of the six systems we used, we were unable to get the game to work for nearly a week while we waited for EA to address various problems. On another system, we're routinely dumped to desktop." Since I don't have a hotline to EA, guess I'm just going to have to forget about BF2 till they fix it. Back to DOOM3 (at least some games are play tested)
ive also seen something about bf2 sf in gamespots review of it taht there are huge bugs and the game isnt very stable at all and they said to w8 till they fix the bugs to buy the game.
funny though how hundreds of clans and thousands of people have it and have no issue making it work though...
hi, im now having the same problems with BF2 I was running the game fine on my mates X800XL (was borrowing it XD) now ive got a 6600gt and the game no longer opens, i get to the black screen then back to desktop.
so i'm guessing its all to do with the gfx card. (even though it says the 6600 series is supported?) both cards were running on the latest drivers from each company.
my pc spec is P4 3.4Ghz 1Gb ram (512x2) was X800XL was hitting around 50 fps max res low/mid gfx settings now 6600GT (PCI-e) wont even start.
