Recently one of my clan freinds was playing BF2 so I thought it would be fun to come and base whore in a chopper with him. Connected to KIA server (64 player ranked VOIP no lag), there were 63 spots taken up and I was lucky to get in (!). Loaded the map in around 2 minutes. Took around 5 minutes to "Verify Cleint Data". Surprise surprise the map has already changed, SO it's onto loading again. This time the map takes about 1 and a 1/4 minutes to load, and then took 5 minutes to "Verify Client Data" again. THEN it tells me: You have been disconnected from the server: Network Data Loss Yes, what a fun time I had, waiting 15 minutes to be told I've been kicked from the server. Fucking brilliant. My computer: 512MB RAM AMD Athlon XP 3000+ ATi Radeon 9200SE 256MB running @ 4x AGP (Could be at 8x but the game screws up with 8x so... No.) 512mbps DSL line (Would get more but the island I live on has only 1 broadband company resulting in complete monopoly and extortionate prices) Running on low low low low low settings @ 1024 x 768 When I get into the game it goes fine, I can play, move, without lagging. But half the time I can't get in. Does anyone have any suggestions of what I can do (Eg. What to buy, upgrade-wise, or maybe settings etc.), because 15 minutes to load 1 map and be told I'm kicked is, for me, unacceptable. Thanks
I have the same problem man, it sucks!
I also think I am loading in the server too slow, i ran the test and it took me 1min 12 secs to loads the map, and then 1min 1sec to verify but it usually takes longer than this. My system specs are: 1024mb of RAM 1.60 gigahertz AMD Athlon XP NVIDIA GeForce FX 5500 256MB 1MB DSL
Hello Mr. Whitlow, If I were you I would try getting another 512 MB of RAM.
I was thinking along those same lines Soldiers, thanks. I think getting another 512 can't hurt and it seems pretty cheap to me. Thing is, I am loading the MAP fine, in about 1-2 minutes, but yesterday I timed "Verifying client data" on my Phone's stopwatch and it took 5 minutes (Exact) to verify. I would have thought verifying your files (For hax I guess) would use your internet connection most of all. If you do get this problem please tell us your net conn, and what it acts like (Some under,over-perform. I think mine does average but I know someone who gets 10kbps more than me and pays the same. It happens). And thanks for the replies.
Agreed you really need 1gb of ram these days espescially for a new game like BF2.
OneTinSoldierHello Mr. Whitlow, If I were you I would try getting another 512 MB of RAM.
i would also definately reccomend a processor over 2.4 ghz, with or without hyperthreading. im assuming it takes a lot of processor juice to accept web signals, verify your files, and encode and truck the data back out, especially if you are using an onboard (built in to your motherboard) network adapter.
I would have to somewhat disaggree about the hardware specs, because i have a 3200+ AMD Athalon (2.2ghz) 768MB RAM and it always loads quick, and sometimes "verifying client data" takes ahwile and sometime it doesnt. I find that after loading, wait for about 20 secs and then press ESC and within the next 10 secs or so it will show the "Join Game" button on the lower right, but will connect you automatically since you pressed the ESC button. Dont press it too soon after loading tho, because then you will unload your resources. In short, its yet another problem blamed on our hardware, when its really their software.
Mr Whitlow I had the same thing happen more then once and it is definately an issue they need to work on. The load times are terrible and I have actually decided not to play sometimes because of it. I sit there for five minutes just to have it load a new map and wait again. hopefully that will be one of the 140 issues dealt with in the next patch...lol S
yes hopefuly they will fix the damn problem. seems like a lot of people dont have the problem though because I have many times missed half a game due to the verifying client data. it doesnt make sense why didnt the other bf games need to do that? at least give us a progress bar for it so we know if we are getting anywhere
