ok, I looked all over here and the EA help forum and I didnt find anything quite like this. My problem is that every time I try to connect to a server, the Connecting to server box pops up, and right then my game stops responding. This is really annoying too, as it usually forces me to restart because crtl alt delete doesnt usually work when this happens. Single player games load up just fine, this only happens when I try to connect to a server. I have Zonealarm, and I set that to allow BF2 to connect, I doubt I have other security software that could be blocking it. Id really appreciate help with this problem, its pissing me off :uhm:
It is possible that ZoneAlarm is nevertheless causing the problem. Please have a look at the following thread... http://forums.filefront.com/showthread.php?t=210456 Otherwise, Please list your system specifications. Please let us know wether or not you are using Dial-up, DSL, or a Cable connection to the internet. For whatever reason I had seen very few posts about connectivity issues. Then recently, all of a sudden out of the wild blue, there have been several such posts right in a row! Lol.
My game used to connect fine, but then I stopped playing for a while and now it does this. The wierd thing is its not just a connection issue, my game freezes as well, which makes it seem like something is blocking it. but like I said I really doubt that. Im using DSL 322.2 kb/s here are my system specs: RAM: 1024 MB Video Card: Nvidia 6600 256 MB PCIe 16x Processor: AMD Athlon 3200+ (2.2ghz) Motherboard: ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe
Between the time that you quit playing for a while and then started again has ZoneAlarm been updated at all? Has anything else been changed on your system? Like drivers updated, BIOS setting changed, ect? You're using the regular BF2 shortcut and not the Play BF2 Online Now shortcut aren't you? I'mnot sure what the deal is either but if I can think of anything else I will post again. Hopefully someone else might have some idea. Regards, OTS
well i'll be damned, I turned off zonealarm and it connected fine. thanks a lot for the help.
Go figure, hehehe. Glad to hear that you can at least play BF2 normally with ZoneAlarm turned off. But, you need some protection while connected to the 'net! I use Nortons Personal Firewall 2005 and it's enabled while I'm playing the game so that I'm protected. You are not the first one to have an issue with BF2 + ZoneAlarm. I think you guys should notify ZoneAlarm about this issue so that they can fix it to work properly with BF2. ;) Regards, OTS
meh, I just use windows firewall while playing, I hear its not that good though.
Well I believe that should work. Better than nothing. ;) Cheers, OneTinSoldier
