As a fan of Nvidia graphics cards, I have been very displeased to learn that Valve's driver optimizations being made only for ATI drivers. Supposedly there was some type of bidding war between Nvidia and ATI on who's drivers should be optimized for HL2. It is unaccetable for a game of this magnitude to be limited to ATI graphics cards. I am also angry to read about the driver benchmarks (on tomshardware.com) and see that my Geforce FX 5900 with 256mb of memory (faster than the ATI 9800 pro), is being outperformed by the ATI 9600 Pro, a much cheaper, and much slower card. The entire premise of making a game that only runs well using a certain graphics card is completely ridiculus, and a unwise stratedgy is it for selling more copies of HL2. If Valve fails to optimize thier drivers for Nvidia Cards, they will be failing to create a game experience worthy of my time and money, and I am sure that there are other Nvidia users out there who would agree.

Um. Have you even actually been reading whats going on?

It's not just Half-Life 2. It's ANY DX9 based game that the Nvidia cards are having trouble with.

Don't worry I'm sure Nvida will release a driver that will help correct the problem somewhat

Yeah Nvida are a big company. There not gonna let something like this slip through there fingers.

I feel sorry for the people that have shelled out for a FX5900 only to read about these benchmarking tests. I suppose its easy for me to say becuase i went for an 9800Pro but id try not to worry. Im sure Nvida will sort it :)

Yeah Decode's right. A big company like Nvida isn't going to take all this bad publicity lying down. They'll try to do something about it to put it right.

It also is a problem for nVidia 2 Titanium in games like Call of Duty and Medal of honor.

Probably all games that work with DirectX 9 I agree with others

Eairlier you said that it isnt right that a game shouldnt be limited to a magnitude to only a single graphic card company well Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance for the PC only worked for Nvidia Cards only in other words Radeon Cards were not supported so things like this has happened before. Doom 3 is based on an Open GL core instead in a DX9 core like Half-Life 2 so chances are it will be the other way around for Doom 3.

Please not I am making mearly speculartions I am not sure.
