Now half life 2 looks very good yes in terms of game physics and graphics, so, why oh why do they bother with head crabs. They're annoying, I want humans to be AI, not aliens, I want more human combat. Am I the only one who doesn't find these aliens interesting, I played HL1 a few weeks back for the first time, and I can understand how it must have been a revelation at the time, but on claims that it's the best game ever? never. I played through it but by the time I was half way through, head crabs were getting a little tiresome, as infact were all the enemies. So I think they should have ditched the HL storyline (brookster throws himself to the wolves) and come up with a new fresh realistic idea. Can anyone hounestly say they could go back to hl and find it the best game ever. Most influencial 3d game of the 90's I'll give it, but the to be the best game ever, it's got to hold up against the test of time. Sadly as is the case with many 3D games, I fear HL fails this test (more wolves pile on). Thankfully, half life 2 may be saved by it's city complex which looks fresher than wandering around souless black messa tunnels. I take comfort in the fact that games such as max payne 2 will utilize the same engine, and apply a (for me) better storyline. Sadly no MP in max payne is a problem. Anyhoo, HL2 yes, but for the single player storyline? I personally suspect I shall be annoyed. However the G-man's a good idea.

WHAT!! You dare to question the legend that is Half-Life???? I would tear you apart except for one thing. I kinda agree with you. I havent even made it into the game as far as you, although I have played a little bit of every mod and map Ive got a hold of. If I had started playing this game when it first came out, I would have no doubt been blown away. Ive started playing it a few times over the last couple years and quickly gave it up for the bigger flashier games that "just came out". So for me the headcrab thing isnt really an issue because its still gonna be a new experience for me and I have no doubt that I'll enjoy it. But as I have said before, the mods, the mods, the mods, oh baby the mods! HL2 will surely be awesome, even to a HL newbie like myself who hasnt fully experienced the original game, but the mods are what Im truly waiting to get my hands on!

hmmm yeah i see your point, but i think its good the way it is. to tell the truth im kinda getting sick of human killing games. theres going to be so many mods for Half Life 2, theres already...what 30...40 mods? and the game isent even out yet and wont be for another...uuhhhh long time. i dont like it in traptown, gordon shoots the zombie in the leg then again and the head crap jumps off... i simply say(well not that simple).. why? how come on the ones that get their legs choped off dont have head craps jumping off. and in various other times where the head crap dosent jump off. I hope that they take out the head crab jumping off the head of the zombie.. btw does anyone know exactly what the head craps do to pocess, i mean like in aliens the little head crap like things put cord kinda things down your throught. how does the head crap do this? does it just bite it?
EDIT: why does it say "Vikki thinks I'm a special person" under my name?
Well...it's your lucky day, Vikki likes you! (I noticed Apoc KId also had this over his too...)
Well I'm glad to see I'm not alone on the headcrab front, to be hounest, the only reason I will be buying HL2 will be for the mods, as a storyline I want to know how they are going to make the game so much more 'fresh'. Surely the gameplay would be the same as HL1 (except for a few flash weapons) which although I didn't hate, didn't keep me interested either. Hopefully the story will be fleshed out a lot more, and here's another thing I hope they've over come. The typical FPS level. Why is it on everyone I play they have a garbage disposal level, or a slaughter house (or both!), and some places flooded with green liquids that are radioactive, and metal tunnels everywhere. This will be HL2s biggest challenge to get out of those. Actually seeing it I think they have done, certainly on the clips we've seen that job very well (EDIT: my phrasing is pathetic, I'm going to leave this as a testement to how stupid it is) . But I always have this sneaking suspicion that one of those levels is going to crop up somewhere. I don't want to see one bit like that, once you've seen one, you've seen them all. Hl2 will need to break the mold.
And slightly off topic....on the subject of the best game ever. It's a funny thing to say because surely their can't be a 'best game ever'. But if you ask me, the best game ever could never be a FPS, because in the end of the day, if you play any older first person shooter now, it will seem terrible, or at least certainly not the best game ever. So surely when choosing the best game ever, your going to be looking in the RTS and platform genres which have still got beautifully clear 2D (look into donkey kong on the snes - masterful for the time) and yet still have great gameplay, in that you can still play them and get a great feeling of enjoyment from them even today. On the RTS front I think Total Annihilation certainly deserves a mention due to the fact that it is still to me the best one around, despite all newer oncomers. The great thing about both these two genres was that they were big on playability and yet still had good clean graphics, which makes them ideal candidates. A FPS may be good fun (especially in multiplayer) but I still feel the genre has not being as good as it could be, with some games makers missing the point on what's required. Yet of course, there's some gems hidden in here too. End stupid point.:p
I suppose what you judge as a good game is according to you as a gamer's taste in game and how he/she (not being sexist) likes to play them. Personally I love Half-life 1 even though I've never got round to actully completing it because I end up not playing it for a while and then just starting from scratch again. I actully didn't find Max Payne a good game personally. When I first played it I thought it was amazing but then after a few hours I started to find it a bit 'samey' so that put me off the game, as I say it's according to your own opinion and taste to whether you like a game or you dont.
you found max payne samey but half life not so? max payne had a few varied enviroments, but halflife was all bleak in that black messa!:p
But you have to admit after about an hour and a half the bullet dodge thing is just gets plain boring and that was portrayed as the major selling point of max payne. If you read PC Zone (uk) they agree with me as well.
Edit Not actully with me you understand, they just have the same opinion as me

not for me, it took me awhile to get over bullet time.. i quite like it, would be a plain game without it.
The last issue of PC zone I read they were bulling up max payne 2 and saying how no one had got close to it's 'quality bullet time programming' THE BACK STABBING SWINES!. Incidently it was the first and last copy of that magazine which I bought. Want to know why. I'll tell you why!
XWWII is a battlefield 1942 mod, and the latest version had some serious flaws which made it unplayable, yet PC ZONE described at as being 'tweaks galor' and continued to praise it's 'radical changes'. It got 90%. I felt like going round their HQ to burn a bra (or a copy of their magazine...or mabey a copy inside a.....)
Well personally I think PC Zone's a much better magazine than PC Gamer but there you go thats just my opinion.
Back to the subject I think that when Headcrabs jumps off the heads of zombies it's at random it doesn't make a difference where you shoot them. Probably means now that when HL2 is released it will make headshots even more a must than before
