Hi all, as I did not found anything appropriate via search, I would like to ask the community if the BF1942 Vietnam Engine does support larger map sizes. As far as I understood, in Battlecraft for BVF, there are only two choices (256 and 512) possible for setting the map size. Is this a restriction in the current Battlecraft Editor meaning the BFV-Engine could handle map sizes larger than 512 or is this a hard restriction by the engine? If so, is there a way to mod around this issue? It is a bit annoying to have too small to navigate battlegrounds when having jets. In addition I would like to see the B52 in the game - Vietnam without it would be kind of shame - and given the current map sizes they are way to small to give that bird a fly. I would rather prefer an Operation-Flashpoint or JointOps style size where the Battleteams need to organize transports and ressources i.e. C130 Hercules paratroopers etc. Any feedback on this highly appreaciated Gunhawk

It is a hardcoded issue as far as I know, they made the map size small because the jungles of vietnam are supposed to be close quarters battles. I agree that it would be really cool with larger battlefields, but just think of planetside and how you would end up with an entire empty continent of land because the worlds were just too big.. This is most likely something you would find QUITE difficult if even possible to do at all.

Many thanks for the info, I have played around a bit but increasing the worldsize in the con files does not help very much. On the other hand I disagree a bit with you. Some games Soldner, Joint Ops and especially Far Cry have implemented an easy way to map (at least vegetation) genericly over large maps. I agree that this method would no always give the same quality results that handmade terrain but if you look at some attempts with prefabs that could be doable. If you look in Soldner Secret Wars, there is already pregenerated Heightmap-based terrain that is extremely huge. The mapper would then concentrate on detail maps like for bases and major combat areas. THis would add a tactical element and gives larger / higher speed vehicles more room to navigate. On the other hand you would get messed being forced to eject way out from the battlegrounds but thats life (Suicide)
