I own both bf1942 and bfvietnam. I like both the games a lot, but greatly prefer the water textures from bfv. Is it somehow possible to copy the water texture file from bfv to replace the one from bf'42? If so, which file is it?

Hmm. Most likely its possible to get the texture, but the texture is not what actually makes the water look good. Actually, the texture probably doesn't even animate. It would look just as flat as the water thats currently in bf42.

What makes the water look good in bfv is the surface shader that the game developers wrote to create the animated and multilayered effects. You would probably need to access the game source code to implement a new shader. Also an older game engine like the one for bf42 most likely doesn't have any support for a feature like that anyhow. These surface shaders are also what gives objects that dynamic shine, reflective/environment maps, and the new bump mapping effects.

Unfortunatly this is one of those things you cant really make a mod for. Sorry... The only thing you could do in this situation is to convert the bf42 game into the bfv engine. Thats something that is being done by electronic arts, and I think there is a mod team doing the other classic bf42 maps too.
