i was wondering if the M134 was a real wepon in vetnam and why isnt it in the game
probably cause it was used very very rarely.
It is. The M134 is the "chin" mounted machine gun on the front of the AH-1G Cobra. "The AH-1G Cobra, or Snake, was armed with 2.75 inch (70mm) Folding Fin Aerial Rockets (FFARs) in M158 seven-tube or M200 19-tube rocket launchers, used so effectively at An Loc in 1972. The Cobra had a chin-turret on the M28/M28A1 armament subsystem. The chin-turret mounted the M134 7.62mm minigun and the M129 40mm grenade launcher. The AH-1G could also be armed with the M134 minigun in fixed side-mounting M18/M18A1 gun pod, and the port (left) side mounting M195 20mm automatic gun on the M35 armament subsystem. The AH-1G could also mount the XM118 smoke grenade dispenser."
Can it be used by infantry in the pic it has a joy stick do you think some one can mod it from the heli and make it a infantry wepon
No. The Rate Of Fire for the gun is 4,000-6,000 rounds per minute, so the ammo would be too much to carry. Pluss the kick from the gun would knock someone on their ass. Here's something I found too - "In the year 1987 the movie "Predator" (starring Arnold Schwarznegger) hit the screens. One of the most impressive scenes was the one where the US Commandos, led by "Dutch" (Schwarznegger), attempted to fight back the alien Predator. One of Commandos was armed with the distinctive weapon, a 6-barreled rotary Minigun, fed from backpack ammo box. This gave the impression that the Miniguns can be used for infantry support. It must be noted, that in this movie a special, blank firing version of the Minigun was used. The electric motor was powered via cable, hidden in the actor's pants, and the actor had to carry bulletproof vest and protective mask to avoid injuries from the fast and violently ejecting empty cases. Had this gun being fired using real ammunition, the actor would ended lying on his back, being forced off the legs by the violent recoil. The "backpack" ammo capacity, also, could be worth only several seconds of fire. lets calculate: 2 000 rounds of 5.56mm ammo will weight about 25 kg (55 lbs); 2 000 rounds of 7.62mm will weight about 2 times more, making such load almost impossible to carry on foot, yet this load of ammo will worth only 20 or so seconds of fire. Add some powerful batteries to power electrical drive of about 4KWt (4+ horse-power), and the bulk of the gun itself, and you'll see that even the strongest man won't be able to carry this load, less to fire it with any chance to hit, due to extremely powerful recoil."
wow Padre your an educated guy and the funny thing is is thats where i got my question from the preditor movie thanks for clearing that up
Biomuck, you got time to duck? :)
hahah same here first thing that came to mind was that predator movie.:KTA: would that gun be strong enough to make a cobra harder to fly when firing?
i had another thread on this before seeing this i would love run arond with on of those:lol: nothing would survive after 20 or so seconds:KTA:
Foxtrot... "I ain't got time to bleed."
