Man - I need to make that FAQ...

You need to be on a map that HAS a tunnel in order to use the shovel. Maps like Operation Irving, Ho Chi Minh Trail, Cambodian Incuirsion, Landing Zone Albany, Siege of Khe Sahn and Fall of Lang Vei all have at least one tunnel. Locations - well - That's why I need to make that FAQ. The easiest one to tell you is on Ho Chi Minh Trail. Spawn at the northern most point. Head directly southeast. Use your map (M) to see how close you are to the next spawn point. It'll be behind a bunker that faces the road leading from the shrine to your northern spawn.

Approach the tunnel - which looks like a hole and a shovel stuck in a dirtpile. Hit your "retrieve" button (G by default) while standing on/next to it. MOVE to where you want to place the tunnel and whip out your shovel. Hit your "Fire" button (Mouse 1 by default) and voila - the tunnel, she is moved.

Now things to keep in mind are: - Tunnels can be destroyed by the US. Put them somewhere where they can't be found but still be very helpful to the VC.

- Tunnels only appear when VC/NVA have control of certain points. If the tunnel is destroyed it may not reappear if the US has the corrosponding point.

- If you die while transporting the tunnel, it's destroyed.

FAQ coming as soon as I can get the team assembled for all the testing.

Great start but not entirely correct. If you have a tunnel, get killed and can get back to your gear before it despawns you get the 'tunnel shovel' back in your inventory by retrieving your gear (or if another NVA grabs your gear he get the tunnel shovel too).

Yeah yeah - I mean technically you can do that, but the chances of reaching that stuff... or some random teammate picking it up before it disappears... are slim. :)

I wonder if a GI who kills a tunnel carrying NVA can place the tunnel?

Find a nice quite spot next to an ammo crate and spend the entire round killing gophers.

Whats the team Padre? I have never really used the shuvel(sp) before but it looks pretty usefull. Also so it never spawns back if you get killed carrying it???

The team is just a few of us :D It's a matter of waiting for the other two to be up for it. I'd rather get as much as I can together before asking them for help with it.

When you, as NVA/VC have the tunnel and you get killed, the tunnel stays with your death kit (wooden cross w/ a straw hat and gun on it). If no one recovers your kit before it disappears AND the US has the corrosponding point the tunnel spawn is tied to, you cannot recover the tunnel until reclaiming the point it came from.

As a quick example:

Ho Chi Minh Trail: Northern spawnpoint (VC) Directly SOUTH and EAST of that point is a tunnel. If you pick that up, die and don't get your kit, the tunnel will respawn right where you originally picked it up about 30-45 seconds after your death kit disappears.

If the US captures that point the tunnel will not reappear.

I haven't tried that, but I imagine they cannot. I do know that a GI who kills an NVA/VC engineer and picks up the kit WILL get the shovel.
