Here's my problem. I can't get my "move forward" and "move back' binds to save. I select the binds then click save and it says they are saved but then they disappear. Then I have to re-enter them and go back to the game without saving and they will work but only until the end of the map. This routine must be done every time. All other binds work. I have looked for conflicts and find none. I have even reinstalled. Twice. I'm running a P4HT, 512 DDR, NVidia 128(dunno what exact model). I use a 5 button optical trac ball and "the Claw" Help!
Are you running a limited user account ? r u using windowsXP ? what keys are you trying to bind , W & S keys from the keyboard ? might be that whatever key you want to bind is allready in use .... EX: i like to use Q for parachute but , by default Q is assigned for the 3dmap , so i have to assign a different key for the 3dmap like left-ALT and then i will be able to assign Q for the parachute .... maybe your hard drive is in read only mode and you can't write to it to save the settings .... i'm not sure where those binds get saved , is it the game folder or registry ? or maybe you are using an input device that is not supported by directx .... i have no clue .... the default keys for those moves are W & S keys .... you never used those ? .... before you reinstall delete the C:\Program files\EA games\ folder manually and run a registry cleaner like regScrubXP .... i got nothing else for you :D .... sorry ....

What i would do is this.
Go into the eagames/bf1942 folder find your custom profile in the profiles folder. Make a backup just in case and then delete it. Start the game and create a new profile. Sometimes the profiles become corrupt for one reason or another.
very true. something else to try, is there are .con files burried in your BFV folders. compare what the begining of these files say(open as text file) to what i have in mine, you might need to edit this file on your machine.
rem *** Player Input ***
ControlMap.addKeysToAxisMapping c_PIThrottle IDFKeyboard IDKey_W IDKey_S
ControlMap.addKeysToAxisMapping c_PIYaw IDFKeyboard IDKey_D IDKey_A
these are only the first few lines. but i believe are responcable for movement. just another angle to attack this from.
Thanks everyone. I'll give your ideas a try. Hopefully one of them will work.
