I'm too cool to Post

First of all, I have been having install problems. I have windows xp pro and windows ME on my computer. I normally use xp. So I get the game, get home and put the cd in my regular cd drive, and autorun goes and blah blah blah and it gets to the screen that makes me check what I want to install. i leave that like it is and i click next. and I get this error message and the setup closes. so i switched to my rewriter drive and it actually started installing, and I get as far as 80% installed on the second disc and it tells me something like media component not found, an attempt was made to utilize a media component that does not exist. so im like ok, i restart and boot the computer on winME, and use the rewriter again, cause i seemed to have more luck with that, and I got as far as cd3. when i put cd3 in and clicked ok, it looked like it might continue installing but it gave me the aforementioned error again. well gee at least it got that far. what does that mean? is it a prob with my cd or my drive? also i have a PCI vid card not AGP. When EA says the game only supports AGP, does that mean that it will not run on my PCI card? I have a hard time believing that even EA would screw off its customers that do not have or cannot afford a new motherboard and/or AGP video card. as it stands if its a problem with the cd I will take it back and get an exchange, but if the $%#*ing game won't even run on my computer because I have a PCI vid card and not an AGP, I'm just going to get a refund and say screw EA for trying to screw off customers who can't afford a new motherboard or card. my card is fast enough and while not the fastest thing out there, partly because it's PCI, it still gets the job done on my other games. my system specs are 2 gHz P4 GeForce4MX420 64mb (PCI!) 768 megs of RAM MSI motherboard (less than two years old and no AGP slots!) WinXP Pro and WinME dual hard drives if someone can help me please do, I've posted on other boards and have gotten no response, and have read threads with similar problems to mine and people either don't answer them or just say buy a new copy. what do you think?

I think you should wait for PCI express and then get a new motherboard and video card . This game looks very ugly at low resolutions so you gotta have a fast computer and kick ass video card to play it in high resolution with maximum Antialiasing enabled . Problem is that , i'm not even sure the first generation of PCIx video cards will have enough juice to make players happy but it should be better than what's available now . I got a GeForce 4200 AGP8x w/128MB and P4 2.8Ghz with dual channel DDR , 1024MB PC3400 DDR Ram , Intel 865PE chipset on SOYO Dragon 2 Plus motherboard , C-media CMI8738 PCI sound-card (that's a $9 sound-card that i'm very proud of - i get 1-2 ms latency in Fruityloops with Asio4ALL driver - beat that CREATIVE ! ) and this game is slower than FARCRY while looking way worse at same resolutions .... I bet they will start to optimize for performance in time , after they solve all the compatibility issues , but that's gonna take a long time .... by the time this game will run as it should you'll see Battlefield 2 comming out , so .... i bought the game just to mess with the editor and MOD tools and i knew that a Vietnam setting is not gonna impress me at all .... there is no Vietnam related game out there that would impress me ever , so .... stick with something that runs on your system for now or , you could waste alot of money right now just to be dissapointed when PCIx comes out with HL2 , DOOM3 and you realize you need another upgrade and waste more cash if you want to play the best games .... In 1280x1024 w/4XS AA and no AF i get about 14-20 FPS on curent system and i also tested with a GeForce 5700Ultra and it was pretty much same shit , maybe 2-3FPS better .... that's pretty weak for a DX9 video card ....
behemoth-9 When EA says the game only supports AGP, does that mean that it will not run on my PCI card? You answered your own question. Your card is not up to snuff, and I don't even think ME is supported with this game. Looks like you are going to have to play older games until you upgrade, thats the blunt of it, sorry. You did read the system requirements before you bought the game, right?
A good MB and vid card can be had at www.newegg.com for about $250 + EA is not screwing customers, you are just outdated. Why should they support old technology? I wouldn't want that. Time to save for an upgrade.

well i wish i could afford a new mb/card. i need a new car too...like i said the rest of my computer is just fine i guess it's just the vid card. i guess ill just stick with bf1942, because my computer can actually run that. but i will never know if my computer will run bfv because the damn game won't install so i'm taking it back to wal-mart to see if they will let me have another game or a full refund or something. i know they're not screwing customers, i'm just pissed off because i've wanted the game for a while now and EA made it almost too much for even a monster rig to handle... and yes I did read the system requirements, if it werent for the vid card my system meets and sometimes exceeds the optimum system requirements. i guess i was just kind of hoping that if i set the grafx on lower settings it would run okay:( . but it wont even install. thanks for the replies though. and ME is supported, it says so on the readme i believe
BFV would run kind of choppy on your system with that car, you would have to had set the graphics on LOW, so you might not have enjoyed it. Too bad, BFV is really a fun fun game. For $175.00 you could get a ATI 9800 PRO vid card http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-102-369&depa=1
and just get a decent AGP MB and you're set. Yeah this game is a hog, but just wait until D3, Q4 and HL2 is out, we ALL will have to upgrade to even enjoy those games.
I kinda was wondering the same thing.. my computer has no AGP slot.. so would BFV even run on a PCI card? or would it have trouble installing like it did behemoth? My PCI card is better than 64.. at least i think so.. an Inno3D GeForce FX5600 128.. and i got 512 RAM, and an intel celeron 2.6 ghz processor... everywhere ive looked it looks like i would be ok.. but i just noticed the PCI thing.. and i'm just concerned that i would buy the game and have it not work.. which would suck.. so any input is helpful thanks
If it says it will not run with PCI card, how in the world could you be upset with them?
I'm saying that i'd be upset if i spent my 30 bux on a game which i can't play nor could return. I don't think BFVFiles statement of card requirements is correct:
"Battlefield Vietnam only supports AGP cards (ie min spec: 64MB AGP 3D Video Card). We do not support integrated 64 meg 3D Video Card."
I think they just left out PCI cuz no one uses them anymore.. but i've looked at multiple reviews of PCI card users who say BFV runs fine on there comp.. heres some examples:
"BATTTLEFIELD VIETNAM RULESS! I have a Geforce 5200 pci and 512mb pc133 and i can still play it on medium and textuer qualitys on medium and it plays as smooth as butter"
ok i have a crap machine, very sad i know i know celeron 2.2ghz 512mb ddr ati 9200 se 128mb (pci) xp pro thats my sad system and bfv runs great, the settings arent exactly high cause stupid celeron but they are at about normal and i play with no lag, tho i must say you probably should have very fast connection to internet to get no lag, i have 1.5 connection and it runs fine a little lag here and there but i play this game probably everyday and i cant wait for the next bf game to come out
So i'm just wondering if i can use the game with my specs and if it will even install with a PCI card.. im just looking for someone on the forums who plays with PCI thats all.. i have an intel celeron 2.6ghz processor 512mb ddr RAM, GeForce FX 5600 128mb PCI, and windows XP home, i don't expect to be playing at high res with maxed out graphics, yet playing higher than 640x480 with bottomed out graphics would be what im looking for.. just trying to figure out if i can play this game on the norm.
Dread pwns me!

Like Beefy said, the next gen of PC games are gonna be so demanding in the Graphics department you won't have a choice to go with AGP technology. So either start saving now, or get used to playing the games that are out now.
Ya, I'm aware that i def won't be able to play games of the future on PCI.. but im pretty much just trying to play the games of the present right now.. if and when the time comes i will without a doubt be upgrading to a whole new computer.. but thank you for your input NFC + Beefy
