I need to let off some steam... Anyone else out there that is new to mapping, but wanted to try it for BiA, and found out how difficult it is? In my opinion, the SDK tutorials released with the UnrealEd assume too much knowledge to be useful. Yes, there are other tutorials that could help, but these go from REALLY basic (starting with how to put an icon on my desktop! come on...) to advanced. Some tutorials tell me to do things, and when I do them, the effect is different from what the tutorial says should happen. Other tutorials rely on users to complete the missing information, so there are usually lots of gaps, which frankly, may never be filled. Besides, a lot of them are not for the BiA version, but for the unmodified UnrealEd, so it gets confusing. I have been trying for a week now to make my own map, and as far as I have got is a simple field with a couple of soldiers in it. I just can't get beyond that. I think the main problem is lack of practical information. So many things seem NOT to be explained at a basic level, that the SDK becomes unusable. I'm not a programmer with years of experience, but I thought that at least if a tutorial claims to teach me how to build a basic SP level then thats what I would learn. What do the rest of you think? Am I expecting too much too soon or is my opinion justified?

I dont know about 'lots', most of the sections are empty! And those that aren't, are for later stages of level design. maybe I'm missing something?

Your best bet is to read through some of the posts on the Gearbox website.
