Someone please help me! I have tried many many times to destroy those Cardassian kamikaze freighters before they ram into Starbase 12, and at best I can only take out one.... I've even tried to disable their engines, but I get no success there either. I'm not much into trying to cheat my way out of the situation either, so please give me some real solutions. HELP ME!!!

Increase the engines to 125%, Weapons to 110% and Shields to 115%. Intercept the first Freighter using your Tractors to lock on. Keep a distance of 20 kilometers. If your ship was damaged from the previous mission, then order the tactical Officer to "Maintain Distance". Target the Impulse engiens and fire your Quantums by using the "X" key on the keyboard. Assuming you have any left?

The Cardassian Freighters are on the same trajectory (6) in all. The Starbase can survive at least two hits. Depending on what skill level your playing. Higher the skill level, higher the risk to your ship and Starbase.

Well, then I suck. I had to engage godmode at captain level to get rid of them. COurse it didn't help the damn helm wouldn't turn the ship around and intercept the vessels for some reason, and I couldn't get within 60km, which left the weapons pretty weak.

Yeah I had that problem too at first, the AI has trouble navigating round the starbase, and wont fire any weapons too close to it, even though theres tonnes of room to spare.

If you work out where the ships are comming from, you can position yourself directly in front of them before they get too close to the Starbase.

...or you could fly the ship yourself, eliminating the hassle of Felix's utter incompetence (no offense to the devs).

In any case, all you need is to get RIGHT in front of the freighters, target and disable both impulse engines with two quantums and some phaser fire, and the Starbase will take care of them from then on.

Okay. First, I know that I only did this in First Officer mode, but.

Frankly, I don't know what's the problem. It was downright easy the first time. Set weapons, shields, engines to 125%. Damn the torpedos If it works, you can recharge at the station. If not, ya ain't gonna be around long enough to care. The freighters have no shields, so set phasers to full intensity, and target for their warp core. Felix did it fine for me using his "at will" commands and "set to destroy," but upon retrospect, it mighta been better to have taken the conn myself. At any rate, fry the freighters closest to you. Don't worry if one or two get through you; Starbase twelve has powerful Phaser-4s, and can pretty well deal with one freighter without trouble. It can, as stated before, take a few solid hits with no trouble.

And let that be a general single-player hint. In pretty much any mission where you're not trying to like, find the device, you can always warp out to SB12 for repairs and reloads, so don't be afraid to go whole-hog on your energy allocation. That's why Starbase twelve has such a big frickin' power plant; so it can instantly refil even a Sovreign-class Starship's capacitors.

Eh... I don't know what's different about your game, but the freighters have ALWAYS had shields in mine.

They do have shields, they're just not very powerful.

As I said it depends where your ship is positioned when the freighters show up.

If your on the far side of the starbase, it can be a real bind to get to them in time.

Well the Keldons and Light Cruisers always warp out near New Holland, and the freighters are always on the far side of the base. As long as you start heading to the opposite side right after the attackers leave, you should at least get close.

The "key" word here is Subsystem. Target the impulse engien, while holding the ship in a tractor lock. The Starbase's phasers are powerful, but they cannot lock on to subsystems, that's where "you" come in with the Sovereign.
