If Kirk had a Sovereign class vessel in Star Trek 6, would he have gotten trashed around as violently at the end?
Yeah, probably. They would've had to give the villain an equally powerful ship to keep the story interesting, y'know.
I would say yes. Because in ST 6 Kirk had no idea how he was going to destoy the BOP. Until Spock and Uhera came up with an Idea of modifying a torpedoe. Kirk being captain should of thought of this. But instead he just let his ship get it's butt kicked. (sounds like Felix Sevali from the game) At least the Soveriegn class would of held up a little better though.
I'd of thought it'd be barely touched because of the fact that the Sovereign is roughly 100 years newer in technology than the BOP in ST6.
Well it is all relative, if kirk had a sovie then chang would have a neg'var. only a fool would take a 100 year old bop and go up against a sovie, which probably had the sensors to pick it up.
Well, think about it. The result would most likely be much the same as the Enterprise-D (Galaxy-class) being destroyed by a much smaller, much, much older B'Rel-class Bird of Prey. The situations are quite the same..BOP capable of striking first, catchin the other vessel off guard..Federation ships have always been known to be quite delicate..Look at ST: IX. The Enterprise, supposadly the most advanced starship in the fleet (Stated in First Contact) was shot to hell by 2 inferior Sona warships. The Sona were not even that technologicaly advanced.. So if Kirk had a Sovereign, the battle would probably be much the same.:uhoh: :uhoh:
In defense of the Son'A...they had subspace weapons...and 2 ships...that's like taking on two Kessok Heavy cruisers..not fair odds even for my blood. If It was any other ship, they probably would have been destroyed, but also there was the Briar Patch itself that was making things difficult to fight them...But, I think the point the director tried to make is that it does in fact take more than a big gun to win a shootout...experience and skill always triumph...Thank Captain Gregory MacRay for that one..
Like in martial arts, the strength of the opponenet doesn't matter, if you have the intelligence to outthink your enemy.
I don't think it's fair to say the Son'A had inferior technology to the Federation, since they were the ones capable of collecting the metaphasic particles from the rings and Starfleet was not.
That's true...I agree with that...but maybe he meant in terms of military technology, weapons and such...even then they had pretty good weapons...subspace weapons can tear a ship to threads...
You know when Riker was giving Deanna the specs on the Son'A ships? When he said they were armed with subspace weapons, there were many, many red dots flashing on the Son'A ship...so they had many of them...I'd say that's a lot of firepower...
Okay. So maybe I used a bad choice of words with 'inferior', but a weapon shouldn't really hint at a technological status. It's very possible that the specs for those subspace weapons were bought/traded by another race..it doesn't take much to replicate a torpedo if the specs are held. Starfleet was probably capable of collecting the particles from the rings..but why would they want to? There's no real motive there to do so. I'd venture to guess that most of the Son'A technology was purchased rather then designed by themselves. To build a warship of that size, large shipyards are required, resources to build the ships, etc, etc, etc. There's no proof of this, of course, but..speculation's fun.
