The same would still apply though. The Nebula is far newer then the Ambassador, and yet it's shielding was taken out with seemingly little effort from the Prometheus--because it was being attacked from multiple vectors. The vessels shield grids simply wern't able to cope with it, and the shielding collapsed, and the Nebula-class vessel was disabled, and forced from persuit. We see this again when the two EMHs retake the Prometheus, and a Warbird is ripped to shreads in what seemed like very little time..again..being attacked from multiple vectors. Even a Sovereign's shielding has it's limits, and when you say 'A bunch', I assume you mean 4-6 B'Rels. Assuming hightest number, that's 12 disruptor blasts and up to 6 torpedos coming in from possibly multiple vectors..Not even a Sovereign could take that sort of a beating fro very long.

If Kirk had a Sovreign he woul have explored more of this quadrant then he actually did.Then we would have had a more developed ship 100 yrs on and would be discussing the impacts of Kirk having that.
