I think it's cos ppl think that u mst hav 2 b really in the know to understand it and also 2 b thinkin' that far in2 the future. I am i High school in Scotland and am referred 2 as a geek but always hav bn. Even b4 I liked Trek. In Scotland (Probably everywhere) a geek is sum1 who likes the sciences and is real brainy. Trek seems 2 b linked 2 this.... This is only my theory mite b right, I don't know

I think the illusion is that you have to have some kind of a PhD to watch Trek because of the terminology. The reason StarGate SG-1 is about to surpass the Trek and Wars in popularity is because they're average people who don't know much about all the spacey stuff. Especially if Jack O'Neill is around and Carter stars talking all technical, he shuts her up and the audience doesn't have to deal with it. Trek let's it all hang out with the technical stuff with "Heisenburg Compensators" and "phase transducers" and other made up stuff with fancy names. I think that's where it comes from. Trek still has some of the hottest chicks on TV though, hehe.

I am really into Star Trek, play comp games, talk about computers, typical nerd/geek I suppose. And I remeber the last guy that called me a geek, got pounced on by about 5 other ppl before I knew what he'd said. But I suppose that, different places have different attatudes to geeks.

I bet Howard Dean likes Startrek too heh heh... :silly:

Who knows........maybe in a distant future when we are all dead and some Fed cadets are walking out of the hollodeck they will argue about why people call em geeks because they love the past and 21st century.

I have called a geek by one guy...but he calls pretty much everyone that, he would be the only one but most people think he's a...*somthing somthing*. I guess being called a geek depends on the meaning, Stereostypical geek would be... different from country to country i would imagine though, Besides..People don't call you a geek if they know your gona turn around and smack em :)

Neelix123 - What part of scotland do you live in and if it is Glasgow what High School do you go to, i go to Cleveden Secondary and all of the neds call me a geek, but i suppose whats different, They think they are perfect, I think we are called geeks because we are so smart and other people dont what we are talking about or watching

i'm a typical "nerd" like warp 11, like star trek and computers. For my computer abilities, people look up to me but with ST, they'll always think i'm a geek or something along the lines of that. That's why we have sites like these, so we can talk to others like us.

P.S.: I agree with Farscape

The Professor and my self have something in common. We are both a little high on the age curve and as a Network Administrator we are computer savvy. I personally mix my love of science and science fiction with my weight training, so I usually get to be a "Geeky" as I please!
