Today, after have trying several other mods, i wanted to see if it would be possible if i could Mod the mini-mods with the tools at hand. And well, its not.
From what I've tested, I found that its possible to extract, open and read the files (such as weapons) by changing the .iwd to a .zip. But it's not possible to do the opposite (without CoD2 going nuts). I've searched 'teh internetz' and found IDWreader, which turns out to be a fodder program. Any experienced mini-modders here have some tips?
firstly, IWDReader is the WRONG program for this file - that file reader refers to a file type called Insight Web Document. This one is a Infinity Ward Development file (iwd).
To save a mod as a .iwd file, just use Pakscape in the usual way, but the file type you want is .zip. So, in other words: save as > .zip. But, and here is where the file type changes, when you name your mod, add the suffix to the file name.
When you save it, it will then be a .iwd file.
This is exactly what i have been doing.
Copy the thompson file from a normal iwd, pull out all the files not being changed, change the thompson, save as zip, change back to .iwd. However, when I start up the game, nothing has changed.
maybe your missing a callback script in another file. or, you havent edited the new thompson to be precached in the teams file.

Well, i changed the following things in the file called 'Thompson' under 'weapons > sp' (in origionaly what i think is 'iw_04.iwd')
What i'm trying to do is change the clipsize, maximum ammo, firerate, and damage of the thompson.
From there, after i change the file, i copy it, place it into a diffrent weapons>sp folder, zip that up into a file called Z_thompsonhack.zip and change it into an iwd.
is there not a loadout file? that is where you used to change clip size, ammo, etc.
I'm not sure what you mean by loadout file.
EDIT: if you mean the *Weapon name here* file, then yes. I rename this to a .txt and change what i want, change it back to a normal file, zip it, and iwd it.
there is a file called _loadout.gsc. This is where all the wepaon ammo is called from. If you've precached a new Thompson, you would have created cvars and case definitions. Now you will need to adjust the _loadout.gsc file to call the new case definitions.

its in IW_03.iwd, in the 'maps' folder.
