So coming up within the next few months or so the new Medal of Honor & Brothers in Arms games, and a new WWII FPS shooter called Hour of Victory will be released giving WW2 gamers like myself an exciting 2007 to look forward too, but do you think the great Call of Duty series will have anything up it's sleeves either late 2007 or early 2008? It's been a while since COD2 on the PC and it's been a few months since the console release so I'm thinking it's either time for a late PC expansion release or maybe a 4th installment on the PC (although I've heard rumors of it the only problem will be that supposedly the 4th game is gonna be modern combat)

 either you've been away to the moon, or in a coma, but everyone knows that the next title is COD4 for PC.

Due out 2008.

These rumors that CoD4 is going to be a Modern Combat game are somewhat confirmed and not confirmed at the same time. I have seen threads (not necessarily on Filefront) that have official press statements from Activision and Treyarch (I think Treyarch not sure though) that say that "the developers of the series are looking to move beyond another WWII based game."

Yeah I know it's gonna be for the PC - but COD4 is pretty far off from now so it's possible they could come out with something else between now and then tally...

Yeah - I dont know how I feel about COD4 being modern combat..it could be really really fun but yet...I'd like to see what COD can still do for the more unseen portions of WWII. The franchise would probably gain more praise for getting off the WWII FPS track and trying something new so they probably will....a solid modern combat shooter would be nice in some respects too I guess.

I remember hearing that Treyarch would be involved too, which I dont know about. COD 3 was pretty cool but I liked the combination of Activision and Grey Matter better. COD 3 had too many of those stupid little things like how you plant a charge or rnadomly turn and twist buttons

IW have "officially" denied all rumours of what theatre COD4 will be in.

See these 2 threads where they deny rumours:

Treyarch are not involved in COD4 in any sense at all.

There cannot be "another" COD game between now and COD4 because then, COD4 wouldnt be COD4 would it? It would be COD5.

Pay attention Tally my friend...

it's either time for a late PC expansion release

they could release, although highly doubtful, an expansion for COD2...it's only been a little over a year since the original launched on the PC (which is hard to believe it feels like forever ago)

I think an expansion release would be a good idea for COD2. I, myself would prefer the pacific theatre, but that, most likely would require an entirely new game, here is me hoping for Call of Duty 4 to be headed in that direction.

WW2 has been overdone in many area's before, but the developers and game designers will never run out of ideas, and whatever theatre/battles they focus on, can be brought to life brilliantly if things are done right. And being Infinity Ward, things usually are.

EDIT:

If such things were to ever happen, I ask for, physics. In my opinion COD2 would have been a helluva lot better with this addition to its engine. Destructible environments and scenery, when I watch an 88 shell zoom into a building, I want to see its remains shower above me. Thats it really, the AI could use some touching up, and maybe a little more of a cinematic approach, but IW have everything else perfect in my book.

IW have said there will not be an expansion to COD2, as there is no budget from Activision for it.

If they cant patch COD2 and fix the checksum bug or the smoke bug because of the lack of budget, how do you think they would have enough money for an expansion?

At any rate, the Dev team at IW are all too busy with COD4.

We, the community would not be undertaking our own COD2 expansion project, if there was even a chance that there would be an "official" one, now would we?

Tally, that video in the first thread you posted didn't look anything like Call of Duty so now I do believe that the video is NOT CoD4. It looked alot like a continuation of the trailer for Medal of Honor Airborne.

Call of Duty 4 is still most likely WAY off in the future...it's not like it's coming around next christmas season.

How could Activision and IW not have ANY money...I find that hard to believe since Call of Duty and everything else Activision has its fingers in is so sucessful these days.
