I've downloaded the game, that went fine. I installed the game, that went fine. However, whenever I try to play it I get:

FATAL ERROR

Error during intialization: no valid rendering path detected.

I downloaded DirectX 9.0c (redist) so I thought it would work but after I hit OK I get:

------------------------------------------------------------------------- So what's going on here? Is it that my Video Card or Driver is a piece of crap and doesn't work or is it that DirectX is being a jerk and preventing me from playing. Anyways, it would help to get a response. I must play this game.

(Keep in mind, I'm not a technical mastermind, so you may have to explain how to do a solution.)

That popup reminds me of the command prompt I got after trying to load Medal of Honor on a piece of crap PIII laptop.

I've also tried to download a driver update (that failed, not sure why) and adjusted compatability. That got the screen to turn black for a moment, Make that stupid error "booomp" sound and then give me the same stupid stuff listed above. I've also tried the same for Safe Mode. So does anyone have any tricks they can use to help me?

I don't think that video card can support the directx features needed. It was ok with COD, because COD used OPENGL. COD2 uses DIRECTX features not supported by that card. It this a laptop?

Nah, this is a fairly new (I bought it in July) PC Intel Pentium 4 Processor Dell Dimension 3000. And thinking on it, I think I got the same error when I tried to play the Battlefield 2 demo. I checked Intel's site and there are no conflicts for the card with Battlefield 2 (They don't list demos so I don't know about that). Anyone who's encountered a similar problem and overcome it, I'd be much obliged if you posted it here.

"Graphics are definitely the weak spot for the Dimension 3000 as it is for most budget systems. It uses the Intel Extreme 2 integrated graphics which has very limited 3D capabilities. To make matters worse, the system lacks and AGP or PCI-E slot for a graphics upgrade. " http://compreviews.about.com/od/budgetdesk/gr/DellDimens3000.htm

I run everything on high and doesn't lag at all. It might be like pacific cause you needed higher req to play the demo than the actual game :D.

The problem is clearly in the on-board graphics: Video card is "Intel(R) 82865G Graphics Controller".

The "Video card or driver doesn't support enough hardware lights for the DirectX 7 code path".

Answer: get a new graphics card.

NB: I wish people wouldn't post that "their card runs on max settings" when we trying to solve a problem. I doesn't add anything constructive to the debate.

Same answer that I gave, however his computer system lacks and AGP or PCI-E slot for a graphics upgrade. So, the answer is: get a new system.
