Small Arm: Anything which a man takes in his hand to strike or assault another with, ie portable firearms known as muskets, rifles, carbines, pistols, etc

Well I hope, with that definition, that we are at last back on track and not arguing about the difference between a sidearm and a small arm.

gopaloojust wondering, i heard thigns bout modern weapons being based off the MG42 and MP44. how bout the BAR and M1? no?

The M14 was essentially an M1 Garand with a detachable magazine. Not so sure about the B.A.R., although.

There probably would be at least one based off the BAR - although it was designed in the first world war so was old, it was still quite fast and accurate. I suppose it would be better to redesign so that you can reload faster and shoot with less kick.
