I've heard this is a problem in COD too. Have you seen the problems discussed in this thread? http://www.gamingforums.com/showthread.php?p=1141514 Thanks!

No I have not. However in SoF2 punkbuster boots me for no reason. May be that I have a false serial number.

It's new with the new server release of PunkBuster. I'm checking the PunksBusted forums for it... Here's some posts from the conversation on "No Packet Flow":

US_The-DukeIt's not just what the cheat forums say (Actually I don't believe in the theory that they spread wrong information on purpose. The amount of misinformation coming from sites like this is much bigger, but anway). With a little common sense it's easy to tell that there's no difference between packets that are dropped by the cheat and packets dropped by bad connections a.k.a. packet loss.

IMO EBI did a very unfortunate thing here. In their desperateness to counter the PB h4ck they decided to employ a strategy that is bound to produce false positives. While almost any detection method bears that risk, the probability for this one seems to be magnitudes higher. Maybe they get it sorted out, maybe not (which is more likely, because there's no safe way to tell the bad connection from a cheat).

The problem is not this new attempt to detect a cheat. It's a problem how people tend to react if they see someone getting kicked by PB. I'm afraid that EBI either didn't know about the risks of false positives or they don't realize that it doesn't necessarily take a ban to ruin a player's reputation. It's time for someone from EBI to step up the plate and explain the reasons and conditions behind the kick. Something that should have been done in the moment the update has been released. Otherwise this is going to turn into a witch hunt that does more collateral damage than being helpful.

Until such a statement is made, we should treat those kicks as nothing more than a kick for the client being in a bad state - very much like the kicks for clients that are unable to update themselves to a new version.

Oh, and finally something for those who believe in the unfailability of PB: PB is not like other software. It depends on a lot more things and conditions which cannot all be tested by the PB developers. They cannot test how the software behaves on about 300000 PCs of different people, but to make progress they have to release the software at certain points and even have to live with certain bugs. Up to today PB is unable to update itself if more than one new version is out. A bug that would kill any other commerical mass-software, but doesn't get addressed by EBI. Please keep that in mind "when it comes to PB kicks after a new version ".
Blast_Pit2Ummm.. have you visited the EBI site lately?

Yes, EBI does make mistakes. And thats probaby why the 0 min kick. Its may be a test to make sure 2,000 peeps dont wind up on the MBL by mistake. If it pans out then *poof*, GUID ban. Seems like a good idea to me.
I run an official server (2 actually, and just changed from that due to pb admin commands not working, soon to be fixed, but will be back momentarily pending a fix).

I don't cheat, no one in my clan hacks, and good friends of ours don't cheat, and they've been getting kicked by the NO PACKET FLOW bug, especially in the Hospital map. I say its a bug because our latest report about it came from a newbie that just installed the game, has no knowledge of hacks, and was confused about the error so he came to me.

Its hard to be too for or too against PB, its never going to be impossible to filter out all false positives, and I have great faith in its abilities because for the most part its absolutely correct, but it has been wrong before, and I won't ever take what PB throws at me at face value, its not good practice and only a fool would not question it every once in a while, this is case and point.

I'm just wondering if perhaps the threshhold for determining if this is a cheat or just a laggy connection is a little too low. I'm not that well versed on the subject, I just wanted to check the threads before I gave this man advice on our forums, and found this thread so I read through it.

This is definately giving false positives, so you can't tell me its 100% perfect, I'm just wondering if anyone else who doesn't cheat is getting these errors and found a work around, short of reinstalling the game?

For the most part it's sounding like a false positive that should get fixed within a week or so.

I have a fellow clan member that gets kicked from all PB servers due to some Invalid S/O thing. Or something along those lines

With some of the more recent releases of the Punkbuster software, users must be an Administrator on their system. If you aren't, it will kick you for Insufficient O/S Privelages.
