With the introduction of jeeps, it just begs itself to be made. A racing mod for CoD: UO. I've got all kinds of ideas as to how it can be implemented. For now, I would like to keep it server-side (except for the custom maps of course, but with HTTP redirect, we can just download the maps as you go), as I'm pretty sure it can be done. The features I've planned so far are as follows:

  • Timer for lap times and race times
  • Scripting for placing finish lines
  • (Hopefully) A damage system for collisions. Doesn't have to actually damage the jeep, just lower the health on the jeep
  • (Hopefully) Tweak the physics a bit to make racing more fun
  • Long distance races where people are aloud gunners (everyone will start farther apart though, or guns will be disabled for the first part of the race)
  • Jumps and ramps. This is where tweaked physics might come in
  • Checkpoint system for new joiners so that they can still be in the race (long distance races)
  • Gas system. You use gas as you race and you may need to pit during the race

For now, I'm looking for scripters and mappers (I can do mapping myself, but we need a couple for the maps). Maybe a modeller to make some additional models like a checkered banner for the finish line, etc. If anyone is interested, let me know in here. MSN is the preferred means of contact but I'll download Gaim so I can get a hold of all the AIM and Yahoo! users. If this mod really gets enough people, we could model some more vehicles to make things a little nicer.

Yes! I was thinking of this a few nights ago. I can definetly help with the scripting, and maybe the mapping.

I've put up a channel on GameSurge and decided on a name for it. The channel is #UOGP, standing for United Offensive Grand Prix :D .

Name change :D . It's now #CoDKart still on GameSurge. I thought CoDKart was just too cool.

I'm not sure about racing ... maybe it's ok if you're 10 or something, but I've been tying to understand how vehicles work so I can create much needed APCs like a M16 or SDKFz 251 ... or maybe even a few lorries for transporting troops.

I've been thinking about making them so that you can jump in the back without actually riding in the vehicle so-to-speak - it would be just like jumping on a crate or something. This way you can shoot over the side of the vehicle. If you wanted to you could point the cursor at the bench seat and sit down too but I'd like to see both options.

As long as its not like the battlefield one then it could be good. The one in battlefield sucked.

Never played attlefield 1942 so I don't know, but what I would do is make them as realistic as possible with accurate plating strength and turning arc etc
