I'm new to this forum and was wondering if someone might be able to give me a hand or has anyone else experienced the same issues.
I've just bought COD GOTY UK version (single player 1.3 build 4511), everything installed fine and all in its default directorys.
Im running it on a HP Pavillon ZV5368EA laptop: Windows XP Home SP2 (all updates installed) Processor: Intel Pentium 4 3Ghz Ram: 512Mb DDR Video: ATI Radeon Mobility R 9000 with 128Mb Shared memory (so realisticly i've got 384Mb System Ram)
Im running Direct X 9c and the latest video drivers from ATI.
When I run the Single Player game in Normal mode with Normal Graphic textures the game is Sllooowwww, on average Im getting between 1-4 Frames per sec. I have noticed that if I look at the floor or stand infront of a wall then the FPS jump to between 60-70fps and I can move around fine, but if I try to look at any other part of the room, then the FPS drop again.
I have then tried to run the game in Safe mode and turned EVERYTHING (resolution on the OS down, on the Game its windowed and 640x480) down, all the performace features on the card are set to performance rather than quality and in the game all the graphics and textures are as low as they'll go but the the game runs slow here as well but not soo slow as the normal mode (on average about 10-15 FPS and when I look at the ground the shoot upto 130-150 FPS) I've tried various combinations but I cant get more than 10-15 FPS when playing in safe mode.
I've unisntalled and reinstalled, i've reinstalled the video drivers, i've set the windows performance to nothing and disabled everything I possibly can, i've also used the console to max the frames per second to 1000 but still dosnt make any noticable increase.
I've called activision but they couldnt help (suggested running a defrag and reducing the graphics and sound accelaration but already had this done), I've run the Direct X diag console and run all the texts and everything passes.
I've been checking forums and i've checked the Activision FAQ site on this as well but there hasnt been a single thing that I havent already tried.
Would anyone out there have had a similar issue that they managed to fix or am I just stuck with a game that wont wont on this Graphics card? Any help on this would be appreciated.
Your card sounds fine. as is the spec for the rest of the pc. But I've never heard of fps only going up or down depending on where you look. And I've been supporting Open GL games for years now. So its a strange one. However, it may be because of a driver (like your touch pad) issue affecting the way the veido engine clocks at. I don't think this will be easy to diagnose, but to get to the bottom you will need to systematically go through everything one at a time. Firstly, lets make sure you have everything set up right in the game. You've turned off 'sync every frame' have you? If you have (you sound like you know what your doing), you could try adjusting the fps rate manually. But first you need access to the console. This cannot be done until you activate the developers pack since the console is not obtainable in sp until you do. This is how you do it: 1. Place the CD in the drive, and once the menu screen comes up, exit it. Then go to 'Run', and type in the following: C:\Program Files\Call of Duty\CoDSP.exe +set thereisacow 1337 +set developer 1 +set sv_cheats 1 +set monkeytoy 0 2. Once this is done click on OK. With the game open, press the tilde key (` - next to the 1 key and above TAB). 3. Type: /seta com_maxfps DESIREDFPS Try that. If no better post back here.

Also, u might want to run some virus and spyware scans, this happened to me last week, and it was because of spyware, i ended up having to reformat my computer
Cheers for getting back, I'll give these a try tonight and get back with the results.

OK so, heres what I did. I got home an installed the microsoft Spyware and ran this, removed a few bits, went into the properties on the graphics card and set the direct X to Application pref with Performance and set the OpenGL to Application Pref with Performance. I then set the Resolution in Windows to 640x480 with 16 bit (looks so crap but its just a test), ran an anitvirus scan on the machine, nothing found, removed all antivirus software (I've heard Norton can mess things up a bit). I then went to msconfig and stopped everyting including quick launch buttons and mouse pad (im using a usb mouse anyway), went to task manager and stopped printer addon services and spooler services and then launched Single Player in Normal mode. The screen resolution on this is set to 640x480 full screen with Everything else in Graphics and Performance set to as low as it'll go and Sync all frames set to off, no wall marks, no blood, tiny body count, ect, ect, ect. Gettings the same frame rate, 1-4 when moving around and 30-35 when Im looking at the floor??!? . Restarted the game in Single Player Safe Mode and these settings are Exactly the same as normal mode (everything off or minimum) and Im getting a frame rate now of between 20-30 (the game is playable and fast enought but the graphics suck!), if I look at the floor again then then shoot to 140FPS :uhm: . I've tried to set the com_maxfps to 1000, to desiredfps and to "0" but nothing makes a difference, when I look up again they drop back to between 20-30, if I increase any of the Graphics or Performance then they start to slowley drop. I've doublechecked and Im on the Latest Video drivers, direct X9c, installed the COD GOTY Patch, updated the laptop bios, lowered video resolution in windows. I was wondering if there is any point to manually removing the game and maybe trying an older video driver, after this im out of ideas!
Is this the only game your having problems with?
