Sounds like a corruption in your graphics driver. Its looking for DirectX ver7, when the game requires ver9.

Have you just tried the new COD2 demo? If so, this may have thrown out your DirectX settings, as it likes to run some ATi cards in DirectX ver7. It should just toggle back to version 9. Sounds like it might not have.

Try uninstalling the demo (you can always save this to disc or something). Then start up CoD in safe mode, and enable all your performance settings from there.

Other things you can try:

Try downloading and installing a new copy of DirectX9b (if you dont know where, just google it).

If that doesn't work, try reinstalling CoD, espeically the last bit about installing DirectX9b.

if that doesn't work, try reinstalling your graphics driver.

Ok, make sure you have a good copy of your driver. Look for a disc which came with your system. If you can't find one, it's ok, coz you can always download one from the manufacturers site.

So you'll need to know the make of card.

If you don't know what card you have, find out by having a look at the device manager (right click 'my computer', left click 'hardware', clcik on the 'device manager' button). You will see your card under 'display adaptor'. Make a note of it (perhaps even the driver by right clicking on the card name, then left clicking on 'properties', and clicking on the 'driver' tab).

Once you have determined what card you have, go to the manufacturers site and go to their downloads section of thier site. Find the right driver and download it.

Once you have a copy of the driver downloaded from the makers' site, you now need to remove the old one. so:

1. Right click 'my computer', left click 'hardware', click on the 'device manager' button

2. Right click on the card name, then left click on 'properties', and click on the 'driver' tab

3. You will see a button for 'uninstall'. Click on it and follow the on-screen prompts.

To reinstall, run your downloaded driver (usually an exe), and follow the on-screen prompts.

**NB** btw guys, my reputation rating has dropped down from 20 to 3 with the change over in databases. Please help to restore it to its former glory. Click on the 'balance scales' icon at the top of my posts to register the fact that i have helped you. If I haven't, obviously, dont bother!! (LOL)
