Ok, before i go into reinstalling the CoD and UO to try to fix this problem, i'd like to know if anybody else has had some experience with my particular situation in case it can be solved an easier way... system specs: Pentium 4 3ghz, 2 gig PC3200 ram, and a Chaintech Geforce 6800 256mb vid card, Linksys wireless-G network card Windows 2000, CoD and UO, and all hardware drivers are up-to-date with latest patches/updates from their websites problem: when joining a multiplayer game i get to the point right after i select my weapon and then my computer crashes and restarts itself. After restarting i could join back in the game and play without problems, but when the next round or level starts and i select my team and weapon again, my computer crashes again. (this is happening in both games) this started happening when i put my new graphics card in but i'm not sure that i'd blame the card right off because it works fine in every other aspect. any thoughts?

The crash sounds like either a driver issue, or corrupt pk3 files. The latter you can check fairly easily by checking the file sizes agains this list: Correct File sizes for version 1.5: localized_english_pak0.pk3 167,895,169 bytes localized_english_pak1.pk3 126,070,475 bytes localized_english_pak2.pk3 17,592 bytes localized_english_pak3.pk3 8,501 bytes localized_english_pak5.pk3 9,544 bytes pak0.pk3 164,229,067 bytes pak1.pk3 165,964,103 bytes pak2.pk3 165,555,454 bytes pak3.pk3 167,888,227 bytes pak4.pk3 167,607,183 bytes pak5.pk3 80,540,215 bytes pak6.pk3 613,326 bytes pak8.pk3 1,091,088 bytes pak9.pk3 18,971,056 bytes paka.pk3 3,101,786 bytes UO 1.41 pk3 file Sizes: localised English pakuo00.pk3 123,141,455 bytes pakuo00.pk3 162,980,955 bytes pakuo01.pk3 165,818,400 bytes pakuo05.pk3 725,304 bytes pakuo06.pk3 238,582 bytes Added from 1.51 localised English pakuo01.pk3 72,866 bytes localised English pakuo02.pk3 3,772,796 bytes pakuo02.pk3 166,227,647 bytes pakuo03.pk3 146,286,848 bytes pakuo04.pk3 163,831,126 bytes pakuo07.pk3 3,129,841 bytes If any file size doesn't match, you can replace it by copy and pasting from the CDs (in folders marked 'Data' on the CDs). See if that fixes the game. if all file sizes are correct, it will be a driver (prolly the graphics driver as this is usually the cause of restarts). Try deleting the game and reinstall the drivers one at a time, then reinstall the game.
it will probably be a day or two before i can get around to seeing if that will work, but i just wanted to go ahead and say thanks for the help and for the better show of respect than the last guy.
hey you seemed to have missed a pk3 file for CoD 1.5: pakb.pk3 5,087,181 bytes ...or maybe i have 1 too many heheh at any rate i did everything like you said - unistalled, deleted, even ran a few registery cleaners, and then reinstalled the card drivers and games and patches - but i'm still stuck. i can get past the point i did before, i actually played for a few minutes thinking that maybe the problem had been fixed, but no such luck, my computer crashed and restarted yet again.

Hmmm I have no idea why this is doing it. Let me ask at IWNation - the forum from the makers Infinity Ward. I'll post back with their answer.
just went there myself and found somebody with a similar problem but different system specs http://www.iwnation.com/Forums/index.php?showtopic=14400 unfortunately, no solution yet there either
i should also mention that this is only a multiplayer issue. Single player works just fine with all the same settings as multiplayer.
OK i think i MIGHT have fixed it. i say might in order to not speak too soon. i'm not sure which of the following did the trick, maybe all in combination, or one in particular. First i ran Defrag and then scandisk and i'm almost kinda embarassed that i hadnt tried this sooner. Then i entered the game, but i did not play, i just started the game in MP and exited. I did this so that it would have a proper shut down and not ask me if i wanted to start the game in safe mode or not, just in case whatever was the problem, it wasnt furthered by improper closings of the game. Then i started it back up and after about 20 minutes worth of uninterrupted gameplay i've come here to announce what i've done. i'll come back to this post at a later date just to confirm that this completely worked or not, just in case anybody else has this problem. thanks again, tally, for your help.
